Job description

Shipping / Receiving Material Handler - Outside
Do you prefer fresh air over fluorescent lights? Working outdoors instead of inside four walls? Then Insteel's Shipping and Receiving department is for you!
Position Snapshot
A Material Handler is expected to work safely when moving raw and finished materials in shipping areas using required equipment such as a diesel forklift tractor, and overhead lifting crane. It is the Material Handler's responsibility to be part of our safety culture by wearing the proper personal protective equipment, asking for assistance if needed, reporting all issues with materials and equipment, and staying safe. The Material handler needs to follow all company policies and procedures.
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Knowledge of safety equipment and safety procedures for shipping/receiving operations
  • Visually check the quality of the finished product
  • Loads and bands material as required
  • Cycle counts material and makes sub-inventory transfers in the computer system
  • Handles other duties as assigned within the shipping department
  • Always maintains good housekeeping/neat work area
  • Loads unloads, and bands material as required
  • Stores material in proper locations
  • Stages rod at the appropriate door for the production machines
  • Expected to be forklift and crane certified
Requirements and Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to complete simple forms and understand simple written instructions.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic skills involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
