What is an installation project manager?

Installation Project Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating the installation of systems, equipment, or structures for various industries, such as construction, IT, or manufacturing. They plan project timelines, manage resources, supervise installation teams, and ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. Their role also involves communicating with clients, resolving issues that arise during installations, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Strong organizational and leadership skills are essential for this job.

What are some common challenges installation project managers face when coordinating multiple installation projects simultaneously?

Installation Project Managers often juggle several projects at once, which can present challenges such as managing overlapping timelines, ensuring resource availability, and keeping all stakeholders informed. Job description

About Us: Stimulus Technologies is a leader in technology services, dedicated to bridging the digital divide in underserved communities. With operations across California, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oregon, we deliver high-speed, reliable connectivity that transforms lives and businesses. We also offer IT, VoIP, and CyberSecurity services to a range of clients.
Position Overview
As a Project Coordinator - Drop Installation, you play a key role in helping bring fiber internet to communities by supporting the scheduling and tracking of subscriber installations. You'll work closely with field crews, project managers, and client teams to keep installs organized, on schedule, and properly documented.
The installs you help coordinate are what turn Stimulus's SLFRF, FFA grant, and BEAD-funded fiber builds into active, connected service for subscribers across rural Nevada, Missouri, California, and Oregon, on projects with important funding and timeline requirements.
For the right candidate, this is a great opportunity to work with data, coordinate moving pieces in a fast-paced environment, and grow into a project management or operations role. You'll track daily progress, help schedule installations, and flag issues before they become problems while learning the ins and outs of fiber deployment projects.
Essential Functions
Drop Scheduling and Production Tracking
  • Receive and process incoming installation work orders through the Omnia 360 system; track and update project and drop status throughout the installation lifecycle in Quickbase.
  • Maintain and update the master drop installation tracker with daily production data from the Drop Installation Manager, including completed installs, addresses, unit counts, and exceptions.
  • Track drop installation progress against grant-mandated and program-specific installation timelines; flag at-risk areas and timeline shortfalls to the Project Manager proactively.
  • Coordinate subscriber installation scheduling with the client, customer service teams, and the Drop Installation Manager to align crew availability with customer readiness.
  • Manage the drop installation queue and prioritize work orders based on service activation timelines, geographic efficiency, and client priorities.
  • Maintain dashboards and visual reports showing drop completion rates, backlog, crew productivity, and geographic progress for the Project Manager and internal leadership.
  • Track rework items, failed inspections, and customer-reported issues; ensure corrective actions are logged and closed out in the tracking system.

Customer and Subscriber Coordination
  • Coordinate with the client on subscriber enrollment status, service readiness notifications, and installation appointment scheduling.
  • Process and route customer installation requests, reschedules, and access-related issues to the Drop Installation Manager for resolution.
  • Maintain accurate subscriber records including scheduled dates, completion status, customer contact information, and any access or property notes.
  • Track and report customer no-access situations, reschedule rates, and other factors affecting installation completion rates.
  • Serve as a coordination point between the client's customer service team and Stimulus field operations for drop-related inquiries.

Materials and Logistics Support
  • Track material usage and inventory levels for drop installation activities; coordinate with procurement and the Drop Installation Manager to prevent shortages.
  • Maintain material tracking logs including quantities received, deployed, and remaining on hand by project area.
  • Coordinate material staging and delivery schedules to align with crew deployment plans.

Documentation and Reporting
  • Prepare daily and weekly drop installation production summaries for the Project Manager.
  • Compile drop production data and supporting documentation for grant compliance reports and milestone certifications.
  • Maintain organized project files for drop installation activities including work orders, completion records, inspection results, and customer correspondence.
  • Assist the Project Manager with preparation of client-facing status reports related to drop installation progress.
  • Track and log invoices and costs associated with drop installation activities; support budget monitoring for the drop portion of project budgets.

Education and Experience
Required
  • High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in project coordination, scheduling, dispatch, or operations support, preferably in telecom, construction, or field services.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with scheduling tools, work order management systems, or field service platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage high volumes of work orders and data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating field crews, internal teams, and client contacts.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively follow up on open items.

Preferred
  • Experience in a dispatch, scheduling, or field coordination role for a telecom or utility provider.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic drop installation processes and terminology.
  • Experience with customer-facing scheduling and service activation workflows.
  • Familiarity with grant-funded broadband deployment programs and associated documentation requirements.

Alignment with Core Values
At Stimulus Technologies, our core values define how we work. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Driven to Grow - Continuously seeks to develop professionally, stays current with industry practices, and pushes to improve processes and outcomes.
  • See a Need - Fill a Need - Proactively identifies gaps, obstacles, or opportunities and takes action without waiting to be asked.
  • Elevate Others - Mentors teammates, shares knowledge freely, and actively contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Extreme Ownership - Takes full accountability for results, decisions, and mistakes; does not deflect blame or make excuses.
  • Celebrate Success - Recognizes contributions of team members, acknowledges milestones, and fosters a culture where wins are shared.

Stimulus Technologies is an equal opportunity employer. This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the position.
