Position Summary:


Position:          Journeyperson Electrician

Type:               Project (~3 mo)

Location:         TBD

Schedule:        14 on/14 off, Straight Day Shift, 12 hours per day – Averaging Arrangement Applies

Role Summary: 


The Journeyman Electrician plays a vital role in the correct installation of electrical wire, cable, and equipment in various structures, including camp dorms, both indoors and outdoors. The work done will be in support of a camp dorm renovation project.  Knowledge of and ability to execute the tasks required as per the Canadian Electrical Code is a key part of this role.  


Primary Responsibilities: 


  • Follow procedures as defined in the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code) 
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. 
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatuses, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. 
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. 
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. 
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. 
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as multimeters and megohmmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. 
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including multimeters, and megohmmeters. 
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors, transformers, circuit breaker panels and disconnects. 
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. 
  • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts. 
  • Cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings. 
  • Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures. 
  • Install and insulate self-regulating heat trace and test with multimeter and megohmmeter. 
  • Lockout electrical systems for all trades (Familiarity with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures) 
  • Other duties as required by supervision such as assisting laborers, carpenters, and plumbers. 


Education & Experience:


  • Valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician Ticket or Red Seal Certification is required. 
  • 4+ years’ experience within Residential or Commercial Construction Projects preferred 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License is required. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. 
  • Knowledge with computers: Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel 
  • Excellent communication and Customer Service skills. 
  • Must be able to work in a variety of conditions. 
  • Safety conscious attitude 
  • Ability to get along well with others on a work team. 
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation) Certificate is required
  • WHMIS 2015
  • All applicants must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English. 
  • Previous Renovation Experience is considered an asset. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a work team. 
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive Drug, Alcohol, and Physical Demand Assessment
