9th Way Insignia is seeking a Data Scientist to support a government customer in Washington, DC. The Data Scientist will support enterprise data modernization, advanced analytics, reporting, automation, and decision-support initiatives across multiple business lines. This position aligns to the Engineer 3 professional level within 9th Way Insignia's career families and is expected to operate as a senior technical resource with strong analytical depth, architectural awareness, and the ability to support production delivery with minimal ramp-up time.

The Data Scientist is responsible for analyzing and architecting data solutions that support enterprise reporting, analytics, operational decision-making, and future business line priorities. This role serves as a senior technical contributor focused on understanding complex datasets, identifying trends, gaps, anomalies, and structural risks, and designing data architectures and analytical approaches that improve the quality, accessibility, and usability of enterprise information.
The Data Scientist works closely with ETL Developers, Power BI Developers, Data Analysts, Power Apps Developers, Technical Project Managers, testers, technical writers, and Government stakeholders to assess data sources, define business and technical data requirements, evaluate impacts across systems, and guide the implementation of sustainable enterprise solutions. This role also contributes to technical planning, ROM development, task breakdowns, documentation, and identification of risks, dependencies, and opportunities for efficiency in support of more mature and predictable delivery.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Be available on Government site in Washington, DC during normal hours of operation.
โ€ข Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, gaps, anomalies, integrity issues, and structural risks affecting reporting, analytics, and operational processes.
โ€ข Design data architecture approaches, integration strategies, and analytical frameworks that support current and emerging enterprise priorities across business lines.
โ€ข Assess new and existing data sources to determine structure, quality, completeness, relationships, and suitability for operational and analytical use.
โ€ข Define and refine conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support enterprise reporting, automation, and decision-support needs.
โ€ข Work closely with ETL developers and analysts to validate business rules, identify data integrity issues before deployment, and provide corrective guidance on implementation approaches.
โ€ข Support requirements analysis, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint demonstrations, and incremental delivery of technical capabilities in an agile environment.
โ€ข Contribute to minimum viable product planning and incremental enhancement of data and analytical capabilities over multiple sprint cycles.
โ€ข Develop and maintain documentation as part of normal delivery activities, including system and architecture documentation, data flow documentation, runbooks, data definitions, and operational procedures.
โ€ข Provide technical recommendations regarding solution architecture, task sequencing, ROM estimates, risks, dependencies, alternatives, and opportunities for improved efficiency or reuse.

Requirements
โ€ข Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or other technical discipline. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for a degree consistent with contract requirements.
โ€ข Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in data architecture, data analysis, data science, enterprise analytics, data warehousing, or related technical delivery roles. 10 additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
โ€ข Demonstrated experience analyzing large datasets and identifying trends, gaps, anomalies, structural risks, and data integrity issues.
โ€ข Experience designing or supporting conceptual, logical, and physical data models in enterprise environments.
โ€ข Experience translating ambiguous business needs into structured data logic, technical requirements, and implementable architectural approaches.
โ€ข Experience validating business rule implementation and providing corrective guidance to technical delivery teams.
โ€ข Experience with SQL, relational data structures, data integration concepts, and enterprise reporting or analytics environments.
โ€ข Experience supporting agile or iterative delivery efforts with backlog-driven work, sprint-based execution, and incremental releases.
โ€ข Experience preparing and maintaining technical documentation supporting architecture, operations, continuity, and knowledge transfer.
โ€ข Ability to operate effectively in an enterprise production environment with minimal ramp-up time.
โ€ข Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
โ€ข Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.

Salary Range
$120,518-$145,000 USD
9th Way Insignia's range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
