Job description

Description: Great People. Meaningful Work.

You can learn a lot about a company by how people treat one another. Indiana Farmers Insurance is a mutual insurance company with a long history of serving members, working with independent agency partners, and supporting our communities. Our ICARE values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empowerment guide how we work every day. You will join knowledgeable, caring colleagues who share ideas, solve problems together, take responsibility for results, and help one another succeed. Come build your career in a culture that cares about the work we accomplish, the people we serve, and how we treat each other along the way.

Why this role matters

When a member experiences a loss, the quality of the claims response matters. As an Inside Property Claims Representative II, you will investigate and resolve moderately complex to complex personal, commercial, and farm property claims while helping members understand what to expect and what comes next. Your work will combine sound coverage decisions, accurate evaluation, practical problem-solving, and a caring member experience.

What you will do
  • Investigate property losses through partnership with Independent Adjusters and off-site inspections to determine coverage, liability, damages, and appropriate resolution.
  • Handle claims from first notice through settlement, including reviewing claim setup, assessing coverage, establishing and adjusting reserves, documenting activity, and issuing payments within established authority.
  • Work with Independent Adjusters to Inspect, evaluate, and estimate structural property losses across personal, commercial, and farm property types.
  • Review and interpret third-party field inspection reports, photographs, measurements, diagrams, and preliminary scope information to prepare accurate property damage estimates in Xactimate.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with members, claimants, agents, vendors, and other partners by phone, text, email, writing, and in person; explain decisions and manage expectations through difficult conversations.
  • Manage claim vendors and experts, control claim expenses, and pursue subrogation and salvage opportunities when appropriate.
  • Review pending claims and take timely action to move files toward resolution; identify issues outside authority and refer them appropriately.
  • Recognize and refer potentially fraudulent claims for further investigation and communicate claim or account trends to Claims and Underwriting leaders.
  • Support other claims professionals and participate in after-business-hours on-call rotation when needed.
  • Prepare reports, maintain complete claim files, stay current on industry trends and applicable law, and assist with mediations, depositions, or litigation as needed.
  • Use approved technology and AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to support documentation, analysis, and efficiency while applying sound professional judgment.
Requirements:

What you will bring
  • Three to five years of relevant property claims experience, preferably with an insurance carrier, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving personal, commercial, and farm property claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret third-party property inspection documentation and independently develop accurate repair estimates using Xactimate.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance concepts, policy provisions, endorsements, and coverage interpretation.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, organization, listening, and relationship-building skills.
  • A customer-focused communication style and the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle difficult situations with professionalism and care.
  • Working knowledge of Xactimate or similar estimating software is preferred.
  • Farm property, agricultural structure, equipment, and farm exposure experience is preferred.
  • A college degree and insurance designations such as CPCU, AIC, SCLA, or another relevant credential are preferred.
How you will contribute

You will be successful by making fair, timely, and well-supported claim decisions; following work through to completion; communicating in a way members and agency partners can understand; and building trust through every interaction. This role requires someone who can work independently while staying connected to the Claims Team and keeping sight of the member and business impact.
