POSITION:

Part-time, Adjunct Instructor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary instructional responsibilities involve facilitating the existing Canvas course rather than creating new content. Duties include actively engaging with students, responding substantively to each student's weekly discussion board posts, providing timely and substantive feedback, grading, holding virtual office hours as needed, and maintaining a supportive online learning environment. Additionally, VTSU Online instructors are obligated to adhere to the VTSU Online Standards that address instructor presence, student engagement, instructor expectations, and assessment of student work.

Course # & Name: EDU-3460-SO01 Literature & Media for Children & Youth

Course description:

This course examines a wide range of literature and media for children and young adults. Participants study literature selections for different reading levels across age groups and learn to conduct text analysis while building an understanding of literature as an intersection of aesthetics, semiotics, culture, literacy, and learning.

Qualifications:

As this course is aligned with Vermont educator licensure requirements, the instructor is expected to have a working understanding of relevant Vermont licensure standards and to support students in meeting those expectations through the course activities and assessments. Candidates must possess at least a master's degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience and a minimum of five years of experience teaching fully online, asynchronous courses is required, along with demonstrated familiarity with adult learning theory. Experience with Canvas is preferred.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, a letter of reference, academic transcript, andstatement of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Compensation is dependent upon online teaching experience (within and outside of the Vermont State Colleges System) and bargaining unit status; the starting range is between $1000-1250 per credit.
