Job description

Job Summary:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is a leading defense technology company focused on delivering mission-critical software and systems solutions to the U.S. government. They are seeking a Software Engineer to gather user requirements, define system functionality, write code, and verify software functionality, all while working on-site in Arlington, VA.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Design, implement, and test software using multiple languages and technology stacks
โ€ข Explore and prototype next-generation solutions for DoD customers
โ€ข Integrate software components into complex DoD software environments
โ€ข Support test and integration activities in IDT labs, as well as on-site customer labs
โ€ข Develop software interfaces to communicate across network protocols such as TCP/UDP, DDS, ActiveMQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ
โ€ข Take leadership in developing user, functional, and technical requirements for software systems
โ€ข Participating in and providing feedback in design reviews and code reviews
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ experience in software development
โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field or equivalent full-time professional experience.
โ€ข Strong proficiency in modern C++ or Java
โ€ข Experience using Confluence and Jira in a software development environment
โ€ข Experience with tactical DoD systems and tactical data networks
โ€ข Ability to decompose and document requirements and specifications
โ€ข Understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, data structures and software design patterns
โ€ข Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
โ€ข Understanding of object-oriented programming
โ€ข Proficiency working with version control software like Git, SVN and software development environments
โ€ข Experience with software testing and configuration management
โ€ข Ability to convert vague customer requirements into a refined software solution
โ€ข Ability to identify and describe algorithmic complexity
โ€ข Ability to work on-site with potential hybrid flexibility
โ€ข Ability to travel approximately 20%
Preferred:
โ€ข Active DOD Clearance.
โ€ข Proficiency in containerization (Docker, Podman, etc.) and orchestration frameworks (Swarm, Kubernetes, etc.)
โ€ข Development, system integration, and test experience with complex DoD systems
โ€ข Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
โ€ข Familiarity with US Navy and US Army tactical C2 or sensors such as Aegis, CEC, CAC2S, IBCS, SPY-1, etc system design is desired
โ€ข Experience with virtualization and containerization deployment technologies
โ€ข Experience with deployment automation tools (SALT, Ansible, Terraform etc.)
โ€ข Proficiency working with different SW development tools such as Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, and Gitlab
โ€ข Experience with creating and configuring Virtual Machines (VMware, VirtualBox, etc.)
โ€ข Experience with basic network concepts like VLANs, IP addressing schemes, and static routing
