What We Look For In a AP Computer Science Principles Tutor

Guides students through designing algorithms, implementing programs in any approved language, analyzing large data sets, and evaluating computing innovations for benefits and harms. Emphasizes computational thinking and connecting computer science to interdisciplinary applications across art, science, and social justice.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with AP Computer Science Principles curriculum across five big ideas and common challenges such as understanding binary and data representation, developing the Create Performance Task, and analyzing the societal impact of computing. Adapts instruction using block-based and text-based programming tools, data exploration projects, and AP-style practice to support students with no prior programming experience.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
