HSBC Innovation Banking provides debt solutions to early stage, high growth, and public companies in the technology sector. This role sits at the heart of how we assess risk, structure facilities, and support clients through growth. Youโ€™ll contribute across portfolio management, due diligence, deal structuring, underwriting and presentations with internal credit partners. The environment is lean and collaborative with real ownership across the end-to-end credit lifecycle. Success means well-structured venture debt facilities, strong portfolio oversight, and clear, timely communication to senior credit officers. Youโ€™ll also build a deeper understanding of HSBCโ€™s banking products and markets while working closely with clients and internal partners. Ideal location for this employee to be based is Boston, MA.
As our Associate, Credit Solutions - Innovation Banking you will:

  • Meet with clients and prospects and support relationship building across the portfolio
  • Structure venture debt facilities that support balanced growth and protect against downside risk
  • Perform underwriting activities including KPI analysis, market analysis and financial modelling across forecasting, scenario, and valuation analysis
  • Maintain accurate internal documentation for debt facilities including financial reporting and internal risk ratings
  • Build and maintain a portfolio management framework that supports timely and concise reviews to senior credit officers
  • Review client information and communicate performance updates internally
  • Provide analyses and recommendations with internal credit partners for the Innovation Banking debt portfolio
  • Develop a strong understanding of HSBCโ€™s banking products and markets relevant to Innovation Banking

Youยดll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Evaluate business models, financial statements, competitive landscapes and KPIs including financial modelling and sensitivity analysis
  • Bring proven debt underwriting experience in the technology sector including risk mitigation, capital structures, and repayment analysis
  • Manage credit risk across an existing portfolio including covenant compliance, rating changes, and ongoing financial performance assessment
  • Interpret market and company information to support due diligence, structuring, and underwriting decisions
  • Apply a strong understanding of the startup and ecosystem including climate tech and frontier technology trends
  • Collaborate effectively across clients and internal partners while contributing across multiple workstreams
  • Use Excel to build and maintain robust analyses and models
  • Work with databases such as Pitchbook to support underwriting and portfolio insights
