Job description

We are seeking an Assistant Vice President, Inland Marine to join our Inland Marine team based in our Alpharetta, GA office. As a key member of the Inland Marine underwriting team, you will be responsible for driving profitable growth, developing and maintaining strategic broker and client relationships, and managing a diversified portfolio of Inland Marine business. This role will serve as a technical underwriting leader and partner across the organization, helping to execute underwriting strategy and support the continued growth of the Inland Marine portfolio. The position reports to the Senior Vice President, Inland Marine.

RESPONIBILITIES:
  • Underwrite and manage a profitable book of Inland Marine business, including builder's risk, contractor's equipment, installation floaters, transportation, miscellaneous property floaters, and other Inland Marine products.
  • Develop and execute territory and broker strategies to achieve underwriting, growth, and profitability objectives.
  • Establish, maintain, and expand relationships with key wholesale and retail broker partners, insureds, and other business stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and analyze complex risks, determine appropriate coverage structures, pricing, terms, and conditions, and make sound underwriting decisions within delegated authority.
  • Provide technical underwriting leadership and guidance to underwriting team members, serving as a subject matter expert on Inland Marine risks and market trends.
  • Collaborate with distribution, claims, actuary, legal, compliance, and operations teams to drive business results and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify opportunities to improve underwriting results, product offerings, and operational efficiencies.
  • Utilize internal and third-party data sources to enhance underwriting insight, portfolio management, and broker service experience.
  • Support product development initiatives and contribute to the enhancement of Inland Marine underwriting guidelines, appetite, and forms.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and work closely with colleagues across property, casualty, professional lines, and specialty products to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of market conditions, competitive trends, emerging exposures, and industry developments impacting Inland Marine business.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, broker events, client meetings, and other business development activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of Inland Marine underwriting experience, preferably within the specialty insurance market.
  • Established broker relationships and proven business development capabilities within the assigned territory.
  • Strong technical underwriting expertise, risk assessment skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience developing and executing business plans to achieve production, profitability, and portfolio management goals.
  • Ability to evaluate market opportunities and make independent underwriting decisions within authority.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship management, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to meet with brokers, insureds, and business partners.
  • Ability to work onsite in the office a minimum of four days per week.
