Job description

Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts utilized in the maintenance, repair, and service of vehicles in the automotive aftermarket. Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products in diversified end markets represented by its Engineered Solutions segment.
Globally, SMP employs over 6,000 employees across nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and engineering facilities and offices located in North America, Europe and Asia. SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.
Overall Scope
Perform all duties necessary, under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager to successfully develop new production methods, as well as improving existing methods for the Fuel Injector Manufacturing Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills, MS Office and CAD software (AutoCAD, ProEngineer, SolidWorks)
  • Experience developing tooling and equipment specifications
  • Experience with tooling and equipment vendors (quotations, contracts, and delivery/installation, project management)
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma tools or other problem solving tools
  • Experience developing/monitoring/improving complete manufacturing processes
  • Experience with TS16949 requirements
  • Proven track record of "on schedule/under budget" project management

Essential Duties
  • Develop manufacturing process(es) for new products
  • Spec and procure all manufacturing equipment and tooling
  • Create process routings and manufacturing process metrics
  • Develop Process FMEA
  • Performs manufacturing cost analysis
  • Assists in 'make or buy' cost analysis for component parts
  • Improves process/ Reduce manufacturing costs by use of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Tools
  • Resolves technical issues with respect to process performance (TPM, OEE)
  • Assists in product transfer from development to production
  • Develops/Implements training methods for manufacturing and maintenance
  • Develop preventive maintenance procedures and metrics

  • Working at desks and production floor work stations
  • Reading reports.
  • Verbal and written communication including use of telephone and computer
  • Standing/walking/sitting during 8 hour work day
  • Lifting up to 20 lbs frequently
