Description
BETA is seeking a Stormwater Engineer to join our growing team supporting MS4 and stormwater initiatives across New Hampshire and Northern New England. Working alongside a collaborative group of engineers, scientists, and planners, you will help deliver innovative, nature-based solutions that improve water quality, strengthen infrastructure, and increase community resilience to climate impacts. Projects may include green infrastructure, stormwater treatment and retrofits, stream restoration, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, watershed planning, drainage studies, permitting, and MS4 compliance. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
Responsibilities:
  • Support MS4 stormwater program work for municipal clients while building technical expertise in scope, schedule, and delivery of environmental compliance projects
  • Contribute to the preparation and implementation of MS4 Stormwater Management Plans (SWMPs) and Annual Reports, gaining experience with regulatory requirements and program structure
  • Assist in developing compliance documentation, including Notice of Intent (NOI) filings, permit renewals, Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) program materials, and outfall inventories and inspections
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, GIS, environmental scientists, and field staff) to gain exposure to integrated project delivery and coordinated workflows
  • Develop understanding of NHDES, EPA, and local stormwater regulations and apply requirements in day-to-day project tasks with guidance from senior staff
  • Build technical skills in stormwater engineering areas such as BMP design and evaluation, TMDL compliance support, and water quality monitoring and reporting
  • Strengthen technical writing and communication skills through preparation of reports, calculations, and supporting documentation
  • Participate in internal and client meetings to gain experience in project coordination, presentation of technical information, and professional communication
  • Receive mentorship and technical guidance from senior engineers while progressively taking on increased responsibility in project tasks
  • Stay current with emerging stormwater management technologies and regulatory updates to support continued professional development

Preferred location is BETA's Manchester, NH office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements
Required Experience/Skills :
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • 8+ years of related engineering experience in water resources and/or stormwater projects
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with:
  1. MS4 permits (especially Massachusetts MS4 General Permit)
  2. EPA and MassDEP stormwater regulations
  3. IDDE, SWMP development, and stormwater program management
  • Demonstrated strong background in environmental engineering and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with software programs
  • Skilled in writing and ability to prepare formal reports
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements and perform asset inspections for water and wastewater infrastructure, in addition to roadway and other utility assets;
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience/Skills :
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil3D, HydroCAD, and ArcGIS/Pro
  • MA Soil Evaluator Certification
  • OSHA Certifications (ie: OSHA 10-Construction)
