Job description

Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?
Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.
As a Senior Technical Product Manager at Tempus, you'll be on the front lines of our battle to develop and deliver cutting-edge, modern technology into the hands of clinicians. The software we're developing is the culmination of input from scientists, clinicians, pathologists, engineers, data scientists, and some of the top academic oncology centers in the world. We're expanding the team of product managers who bring those inputs together to design, scope, and build solutions to some of the toughest problems in cancer care.
We're looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to lead our on-premises and real-time FHIR and HL7 integrations on the Data Platform product team, with a focus on building and scaling the critical infrastructure that powers secure data exchange. You'll own products like our Edge Appliance (on-premises virtual appliance) and Edge API (real-time FHIR/HL7 integration), helping to evolve our platform to support faster, safer, and more comprehensive data ingestion and delivery.
If you're passionate about enabling seamless data exchange in healthcare to power AI driven clinical insights, this is your opportunity to lead that change.
What You'll Do:
  • Immerse yourself in the tough problems we're solving, and team with scientists, engineers, ML/AI engineering teams, and designers to develop elegant software solutions to solve those problems.
  • Define & own the product strategy for the Tempus Data Platform, focusing on secure, scalable, and interoperable data exchange via Edge product offerings.
  • Enhance the efficiency and reliability of data ingestion, processing, and delivery workflows for internal and external stakeholders, including DICOM, HL7, FHIR, and various data modalities.
  • Champion user empathy for integrators, data engineers, and clinical operations teams, ensuring integration workflows are efficient, consistent, and scalable across diverse deployment topologies (on-premises, cloud-to-cloud).
  • Explore and prioritize opportunities to leverage generative AI for streamlining integration setup, data mapping, anomaly detection, and troubleshooting within the Data platform.
  • Define and track KPIs to measure the performance, reliability, and adoption of Edge products, focusing on data throughput, latency, and successful data product creation.
  • Own the product roadmap for the Edge Appliance and Edge API, and partner with Product Managers and the Director of Product to find the best way to execute quarterly and sub-quarterly goals.
  • Be a key player in defining business requirements, project execution plans, and launch strategy for new integration capabilities.
  • Conduct deep product analysis and use the data to guide the short- and long-term roadmap for the team.
  • Own stakeholder communication and expectation management around roadmap and delivery timelines for your products.
  • Lead operational change management for production changes and any related workflow impacts on integration partners.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of technical product management experience, with at least 2 years focused on enterprise integration platforms, data platforms, or cloud infrastructure services.
  • Demonstrated experience managing API products (e.g., FHIR APIs, RESTful APIs), data transfer services (e.g., SFTP, S3), or on-premises software solutions (e.g., virtual appliances).
  • Experience working with agile software development teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to act as translator among diverse teams of biologists, medical professionals, engineers, operators, data scientists, and external integration partners.
  • Experience in one or more of the following is a significant plus:
  • Healthcare data standards (DICOM, HL7, FHIR).
  • Cloud integration patterns (AWS, GCP).
  • On-premises deployment models and connectivity.
  • Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance in a regulated industry (e.g., healthcare) is highly desirable.
