Job description

Mainframe Solutions is recruiting an experienced Heavy Civil Project Manager for an established contractor supporting complex civil and infrastructure projects throughout the Houston market.

This is an opportunity for a Project Manager who wants ownership of projects rather than simply tracking schedules and paperwork. You will lead projects from planning and mobilization through execution and closeout, working directly with field leadership, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and company leadership.

Projects may include underground utilities, excavation, site development, drainage, concrete paving, structural foundations, stabilization, and other heavy civil scopes.

If you understand how civil projects are actually built and can balance field execution with cost, schedule, client expectations, and team leadership, this opportunity offers the ability to make an immediate impact.

Compensation ranges from $100,000 to $130,000, depending on experience and overall qualifications.

What would you do as a Project Manager

As a Heavy Civil Project Manager, you will take ownership of project performance from preconstruction through final completion.

You will work closely with Superintendents and field teams to ensure labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and schedules remain aligned with project objectives. You will also maintain visibility into project costs, forecasts, change management, documentation, and client expectations.

This role requires someone who can move comfortably between the office, jobsite, client conversations, and internal leadership discussions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage heavy civil construction projects from mobilization through closeout
  • Oversee scopes involving underground utilities, excavation, drainage, concrete, paving, earthwork, and site development
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and cost controls
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, field crews, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and clients
  • Monitor production, project costs, schedule performance, and overall profitability
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, and project documentation
  • Identify project risks and resolve operational or technical challenges
  • Support subcontractor and vendor selection and coordination
  • Maintain strong communication with clients and internal leadership
  • Ensure projects meet safety, quality, contractual, and schedule requirements
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction
  • Previous Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager experience with increasing responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of civil plans, specifications, budgets, scheduling, and cost control
  • Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, and field operations
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced construction environment
Preferred Experience
  • Underground utilities
  • Earthwork and excavation
  • Drainage and site development
  • Concrete and paving
  • Structural foundations
  • Heavy civil infrastructure
  • Self perform construction
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
Does this sound like you?

You understand that successful project management happens in both the numbers and the field.

You can look at a schedule, budget, set of plans, or production issue and understand how it affects the entire project. You communicate clearly, hold people accountable, anticipate problems, and build strong relationships with both field teams and clients.

If you are looking for an opportunity to take greater ownership of complex heavy civil projects in Houston, we want to hear from you.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable laws. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of the offer.
