Description

The Infrastructure Engineer is a senior technical leadership role responsible for the daily operations of a federal government Data Center's infrastructure team, combining hands on Linux systems administration with team leadership, Authorization to Operate (ATO) and Authorization to Connect (ATC) documentation support, and monthly patch management coordination. The Infrastructure Engineer - Lead operates comfortably with minimal direction, manages competing priorities across the team, and serves as the primary point of contact for infrastructure matters within the Data Center environment.


Responsibilities

This role will have the following responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Task Management

  • Assign, prioritize, and track work items across the infrastructure team based on project requirements and individual skill sets
  • Conduct daily infrastructure meetings to review work item status and address ongoing or emerging issues
  • Maintain accurate documentation of team tasks and progress
  • Manage and guide infrastructure team members, providing day to day direction and technical mentorship

ATO / ATC Documentation

  • Maintain and update hardware and software inventory documentation on a monthly basis for delivery to System Stewards for upload into eMASS
  • Maintain and update system architecture diagrams monthly as part of the ATO refresh package
  • Support preparation and submission of ATO/ATC artifacts during formal review periods
  • Advise on and coordinate security configurations required to satisfy ATO and ATC requirements

Patch Management

  • Serve as monthly patching coordinator for Red Hat Linux systems (Crisp patching process), ensuring patches are applied on schedule and system integrity is maintained

Linux Infrastructure and Automation

  • Manage and oversee Linux instances supporting Data Center operations
  • Develop and maintain automation using Ansible to streamline recurring infrastructure tasks

SSH Configuration and Access Support

  • Document SSH configuration processes to ensure consistency and repeatability
  • Assist colleagues and stakeholders with SSH connectivity setup, providing guidance to ensure secure connections

Software Tools Justification

  • Manage and maintain the Software Tools Justification site, keeping software keys and license information current


General Support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve IRIS and Linux related issues as they arise
  • Create ad hoc documentation and artifacts to support team operations and project requirements
  • Perform data analysis and provide insights and recommendations from infrastructure and compliance activities
  • Work comfortably in fast paced and, at times, ambiguous environments


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, scientific, managerial, business, or other discipline related to the area of expertise; four years of additional documented relevant experience may be substituted for the degree, or an Associate's Degree together with two years of additional documented relevant experience
  • 5 years of experience in Linux systems administration and IT infrastructure operations, including experience leading or supervising a technical team
  • Demonstrated experience supporting ATO/ATC documentation and RMF related compliance activities; eMASS or CSAM experience preferred
  • Hands on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux patch management
  • Experience with Ansible or comparable configuration management and automation tooling
  • Working knowledge of SSH configuration, key management, and secure connectivity troubleshooting
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, minimally supervised federal contracting environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance (Moderate Background Investigation)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting a federal test/integration environment
  • Familiarity with the IRIS incident/ticketing platform
  • Experience creating and maintaining system architecture diagrams


Additional Information

This position may require occasional after-hours work for system maintenance and emergency troubleshooting. The successful candidate must be willing to engage in continuous learning to keep pace with evolving technology and security requirements.

As an employee, the Infrastructure Engineer - Lead has the following additional responsibilities:

  • Provide performance evaluation feedback to contract team leadership for junior staff
  • Actively participate in business development with a focus on supporting proposal efforts


Utilization Expectations

Utilization is the percentage of an employee’s time expected to be dedicated to client-billable work. Utilization is expected to be at 90% for this position.


Work Location

This is a hybrid position based in St. Petersburg, FL, supporting a federal government Data Center environment. The role combines remote work with regular on-site presence as required for system access, testing, or maintenance windows.
