Job Description:

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and versatile Systems Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This role spans both onpremises infrastructure and cloud platforms, giving you the opportunity to work across servers, storage, virtualization, and enterprise networking technologies. You will support and enhance critical systems including backup and disaster recovery platforms, Azure and AWSbased cloud services, and core network services such as WiFi and switching. If you are passionate about building reliable, secure infrastructure and enjoy working with a broad technology stack, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Technologies: Support and enhance cloudbased infrastructure across Azure and AWS, including building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform/OpenTofu and GitLab pipelines.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in the oncall rotation for the infrastructure team, ensuring system reliability and timely response to critical issues.
  • Backup Technologies: Manage and support backup technologies (Veeam experience strongly preferred) and perform backup restorations as needed.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop infrastructure as code deployed using GitLab.
  • Systems Engineering: Run daytoday infrastructure operations, including managing, maintaining, and patching Windows servers; troubleshooting system, network, and application issues; applying and maintaining GPOs; managing firewall rules; and administering user and system permissions across onprem and cloud environments.
  • Collaboration Work closely with multiple departments; the systems engineering team operates as an integrated part of the organization rather than in silos.
  • Azure Cloud configuration: Assist with Azure cloud configuration, optimization, and bestpractice alignment.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in systems engineering, technical support, or a related role.

Skills:

  • Cloud Platforms: Strong knowledge of Azure architecture, configuration, and management.
  • IaC Tools: Expertise with OpenTofu/Terraform and GitLab CI/CD.
  • Windows Infrastructure: Strong fundamentals in Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL, and Windows OS administration.
  • Virtualization: Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop, Citrix, and VMware.
  • Networking: Solid understanding of networking concepts and troubleshooting.
  • Security: Working knowledge of security principles, technologies, and best practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Automation: Strong PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Certifications: Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Security+, CCNA).

Personal Attributes

  • Strong problemsolving and analytical thinking
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to work independently
  • Detailoriented and proactive approach to tasks and improvement opportunities

What We Offer

  • Compensation: Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Development: Opportunities for professional development and certification reimbursement.
  • Environment: Collaborative work environment focused on innovation and excellence.

This position is ideal for an individual who thrives at the intersection of technical support, systems engineering, and security, with a passion for ensuring system reliability and empowering teams through technology.

SWIB Offers:
  • Competitive total cash compensation, based on AON (formerly McLagan) industry benchmarks
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Educational and training opportunities
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Challenging work in a professional environment
  • Hybrid work environment
The position requires U.S. work authorization.
Pursuant to our Hybrid Remote Work Policy, all staff have the flexibility to work remotely, but are required to have a weekly presence in our offices, the frequency of which is dependent on their distance from office. Staff are not required to reside locally; however, we offer relocation reimbursement to the Dane County area per our policy.
