Infoworks Icm information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Infoworks ICM professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Infoworks ICM (Information and Content Management) professional, you need strong data management, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and analytics skills, usually backed by experience in big data environments and a relevant technical degree. Familiarity with Infoworks platform tools, data integration systems, and cloud technologies like AWS or Azure is typically expected, along with certifications in data engineering or cloud platforms. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and adaptability are critical soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and addressing evolving data challenges. These skills ensure the effective design, implementation, and management of scalable data solutions that drive business insights and operational efficiency.

What is the difference between Infoworks Icm vs Data Engineer?

AspectInfoworks IcmData Engineer
Primary RoleData pipeline automation and orchestration platformDesigning, building, and maintaining data pipelines and architectures
Required SkillsData integration, ETL processes, cloud platforms, scriptingSQL, programming (Python, Java), data modeling, cloud services
Work EnvironmentData operations teams, cloud environments, enterprise settingsData teams, software development environments, cloud or on-premises

Infoworks Icm focuses on automating data workflows and managing data pipelines, while Data Engineers design and develop these pipelines. Both roles require knowledge of data integration, scripting, and cloud platforms, but Infoworks Icm specialists typically work with the platform's automation tools, whereas Data Engineers focus on building custom data solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by Infoworks ICM professionals when implementing data integration solutions, and how can they be addressed?

Infoworks ICM professionals often encounter challenges such as integrating data from diverse sources, ensuring data quality, and managing large-scale data migrations. These issues can be addressed by leveraging Infoworks’ automated data onboarding and workflow orchestration features, collaborating closely with data engineers and business stakeholders, and following best practices for data validation and monitoring. Staying proactive in communication and documentation helps ensure smoother project delivery and minimizes unexpected issues.

What is an Infoworks ICM and what do they do?

An Infoworks ICM typically refers to a professional who works with Infoworks Integrated Catchment Modeling (ICM) software, a tool used by civil and environmental engineers to model and analyze water and wastewater systems. Their job involves simulating how drainage, sewer, and river systems behave under various conditions to support planning, design, and operational decisions. They help organizations predict flooding, optimize system performance, and ensure regulatory compliance. The role often requires strong analytical skills, a background in hydrology or civil engineering, and experience with modeling software.

Job description

As a Hydraulic Modeler, you’ll support municipal utility clients by developing and analyzing hydrologic and hydraulic models that inform the design and optimization of critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, specifically pressure pipe, and drinking water systems. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, planners, and GIS specialists to evaluate system capacity, identify deficiencies, and guide rehabilitation or expansion strategies. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring resilient, efficient, and regulatory-compliant utility systems that serve growing communities across the U.S

  • Develop, calibrate, and maintain hydraulic and hydrologic models for water distribution, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems using software such as SWMM, EPASWMM, EPANET, InfoWater Pro, InfoWorks ICM, InfoSWMM, WaterCAD/GEMs, SewerCAD/GEMS or MIKE+ software.
  • Analyze system performance under existing and future conditions to support master planning, capital improvement planning, and asset management.
  • Support municipal utility projects by identifying bottlenecks, overflows, infiltration/inflow (I/I) issues, and flood risk areas through dynamic modeling.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation, model summaries, maps, and visualizations to support internal teams and client presentations.
  • Assist in field data collection and site visits to support model calibration, including flow monitoring and utility hole inspections.
  • Extract and process GIS data, survey files, and utility records to build and update system models.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to integrate modeling results into design documents, reports, and permit applications.
  • Participate in the development of stormwater management plans, sanitary sewer evaluations, and water distribution system assessments.
  • Ensure modeling efforts meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements (EPA, FEMA, state DEPs)
  • Contribute to QA/QC processes to ensure data integrity, model accuracy, and consistency across deliverables.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field (master’s degree a plus)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for municipal utility systems.
  • EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 12-24 months preferred.
  • Proficiency in modeling software such as SWMM, EPASWMM, EPANET, InfoWater Pro, InfoWorks ICM, InfoSWMM, WaterCAD/GEMs, SewerCAD/GEMS or MIKE+.
  • Strong GIS skills (ArcGIS, QGIS) and experience using spatial data to support modeling tasks.
  • Familiarity with U.S. municipal utility systems, infrastructure design standards, and regulatory frameworks (EPA, FEMA, Clean Water Act, etc.)
  • This office job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. May occasionally be exposed to noise.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the physical demands of the employee may include constant sitting, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and occasional standing, moving, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, and coordination.
