Work arrangement:

This role is categorized ashybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View, CA at least three times per week (or morefrequentlyif dictated by business needs).

The Role

The Manager, Software Test Engineering is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, scalability, and performance of automotive operating systems. This requires a detailed knowledge of hardware bringup, operating system fundamentals, and includes both software deployed to customers in the field and software still in development. As Software Quality Engineers, we work with the cross-functional connectivity software teams to deliver the best possible Infotainment experience to bring delight to our customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background leading highly technical teams in testing quality software solutions.

What You'll Do

You will provide technical and organizational leadership, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of innovation and excellence. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders is essential to deliver delightful, quality solutions that enhance our platform’s capabilities and business outcomes.

  • Leads, guides and directs a large group of technical employees responsible for connectivity quality and to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of connectivity software systems
  • Leading simultaneous software quality efforts across multiple programs and supporting multiple software development teams through software quality improvements
  • Actively monitor the performance and availability of multiple software systems across validation, multiple programs, integration and other test areas
  • Lead the team through initial incident root cause analysis on the software with engineers and implement proactive measures to prevent future incidents. Removing many programs launch blockers
  • Continuously identifying opportunities for process improvement, implementing best practices, and driving initiatives to enhance the reliability and performance of software systems
  • Collaborate with leaders across software and services to drive the best quality solutions
  • Instill software reliability best practice through automation, data insights, and observability
  • Hiring: Identifies & leads staffing initiatives for work team.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled Group Meetings, Communicates GM Policies & Procedures, Leadership and Safety Messages.
  • Creates and communicates vision & strategies specific to functional responsibilities. This includes preparing and giving presentations.
  • Insures employees complete all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility.
  • Understands & supports employee's career development goals. Develops and executes initiatives to improve work team capability and increase work team capacity.
  • Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback. Conducts performance interventions when necessary.
  • Formally & informally recognizes employee's contributions.
  • Provides timely and consistent feedback to direct employees appropriately.
  • Participates in compensation planning and administers compensation treatment.
  • Observes and steps up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related software subject area, or work equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team.
  • Strong understanding of all QA processes and the importance of introducing quality at the beginning of the software life cycle
  • Experience with testing of embedded platforms, including low-level and middleware
  • Experience that demonstrates strong technical leadership - able to comprehend complex systems and explain these systems to others.
  • Creativity and initiative as well as a high level of independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and make strategic decisions impacting business and technology.
  • In depth knowledge of software testing with a focus on the benefits of automation.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience in GM production SW development/testing process and Issue tracking systems.
  • Knowledge in vehicle infotainment and data communication systems (i.e. CAN, ETHERNET).
  • Familiarity with connectivity - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, Cellular, CAN, V2x simulators and relevant test devices
  • Understanding of networking and software development in distributed systems
  • Prior experience with vehicle infotainment, telematics, and vehicle diagnostics
  • Deep understanding of operating systems and OS internals
Compensation

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

  • The salary range for this role is ($159,400 - $245,000). The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
Company Vehicle

Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
