An Information Technology Weekend job involves working in IT support, system maintenance, or cybersecurity during weekends to ensure smooth operations outside regular business hours. Responsibilities may include troubleshooting technical issues, monitoring networks, updating software, and responding to urgent IT incidents. These roles are common in industries that require 24/7 IT availability, such as healthcare, finance, and e-commerce. Weekend IT jobs can be part-time or full-time, depending on the organization's needs.

What type of schedule and work environment should I expect in an information technology weekend position?

Information Technology Weekend roles typically involve providing IT support during evenings, weekends, or designated non-business hours to ensure critical operations remain uninterrupted. You may work independently or as part of a smaller weekend team, often communicating with week-day staff through documentation and handoffs. The environment can be fast-paced, as weekend IT staff are sometimes responsible for resolving urgent technical issues or performing scheduled maintenance when service disruptions minimally impact business operations. This role is ideal for those seeking flexible shifts or wanting to gain valuable experience managing high-priority incidents. Teamwork and clear communication are essential, as you'll collaborate with colleagues to maintain seamless IT operations across the entire week.

Excellent time management, strong communication, and customer service skills are important for handling urgent issues and interacting with users during off-peak hours. These skills enable reliable IT support coverage on weekends, ensuring systems run smoothly and critical problems are addressed promptly.

Summary:

Marden's is looking for an IT Director to own the technology that keeps our stores, warehouses, and offices running. You'll manage our entire environment — servers, networks, phones, endpoints, and business applications — and lead the IT team that supports it.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll spend part of your time setting direction and evaluating where we should invest, and part of it in the weeds solving real problems. The systems you build and the decisions you make will show up immediately in how smoothly our operations run, and over time in how well we're positioned to grow.

Responsibilities:Run and improve our infrastructure
  • Maintain the core environment: servers, firewalls, switches, operating systems, email, IP phones, endpoints, and business applications.
  • Assess our current systems and assets, then recommend and implement the upgrades that will make the biggest difference.
  • Lead the design and rollout of new applications and changes to existing systems, from planning through deployment.
Protect the business
  • Own information security: risk assessments, security audits, access controls, and companywide security awareness training.
  • Build and test our disaster recovery plan, and make sure backups actually work when we need them.
Lead the IT team
  • Direct IT staff on business-critical work, systems maintenance, and hardware and software asset tracking.
  • Make sure employees across the company get the training and technical support they need to use our tools well.
Guide technology decisions
  • Work with department leaders to understand what they need, where they're stuck, and what technology could actually fix.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, and software, and separate what's genuinely useful from what isn't.
  • Manage vendor relationships and hold them accountable for service and value.
  • Prepare cost-benefit analyses for significant upgrades and investments.
Requirements
  • Five or more years of experience managing IT operations, including direct responsibility for staff.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of enterprise systems and infrastructure — Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365, Microsoft Business Central software, networking, and virtualization.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery, systems performance monitoring, and information security practices.
  • A track record of implementing, configuring, and testing IT solutions end to end.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the judgment to know when a simple fix beats an elegant one.
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical people alike, and comfort working through ambiguity, change, and deadline pressure.
Preferred Skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, CISSP, ITIL, or similar).
  • Experience supporting a multi-site retail, distribution, or warehouse environment - a plus!!
