Bison Hospitality at Howard University is seeking a dependable, service-oriented Information Technology Intern to support the technology used throughout campus dining operations. The intern will assist with maintaining network connectivity, supporting point-of-sale (POS) systems, and managing the day-to-day functionality of the Grubhub campus dining platform.

This position provides hands-on experience in technical support, systems administration, troubleshooting, and customer service within a fast-paced hospitality environment. The ideal candidate is organized, technically curious, and able to communicate effectively with employees, managers, vendors, and campus partners.

Compensation Data

COMPENSATION: The Hourly rate for this position is $18.40 to $18.40. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.

Job Responsibilities
Network and Technical Support
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining network connectivity for dining locations, offices, POS terminals, printers, kiosks, and other connected devices.
  • Troubleshoot basic network, hardware, software, Wi-Fi, and connectivity issues.
  • Help install, configure, test, and maintain computers, tablets, printers, scanners, and other technology equipment.
  • Escalate complex network or system issues to the appropriate IT team or third-party vendor.
  • Assist with maintaining an accurate inventory of technology equipment, devices, licenses, and accessories.
  • Document technical issues, troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and recurring system concerns.
  • Support routine system updates, equipment replacements, and preventive maintenance under appropriate supervision.
Point-of-Sale System Support
  • Assist with the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of POS terminals and related equipment.
  • Support POS menu updates, pricing changes, product availability, meal-plan settings, and promotional programming as authorized.
  • Test system changes to confirm accuracy before implementation.
  • Help resolve issues involving transactions, card readers, receipt printers, cash drawers, kitchen printers, and other POS peripherals.
  • Assist managers and frontline employees with basic POS system questions and training.
  • Monitor system performance and promptly report outages or transaction-related issues.
  • Follow established controls when handling system access, payment information, and POS configuration changes.
Grubhub Platform Support
  • Assist with managing Grubhub menus, pricing, operating hours, product availability, and location information.
  • Help troubleshoot mobile-ordering issues, missing orders, delayed tickets, menu errors, and printer or tablet connectivity problems.
  • Coordinate with dining managers to ensure Grubhub menus accurately reflect current products and service availability.
  • Support the onboarding or reactivation of dining locations on the Grubhub platform.
  • Monitor order flow and system functionality during peak service periods.
  • Communicate technical problems to Grubhub support and assist with tracking issues through resolution.
  • Review available order and performance data to help identify recurring problems and opportunities to improve the guest experience.
Customer Service and Administrative Support
  • Respond professionally and promptly to technology support requests from managers and employees.
  • Provide basic instruction and job aids for commonly used systems and equipment.
  • Communicate outages, service interruptions, and system updates to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Participate in IT, operational, and vendor meetings as requested.
  • Protect confidential business, employee, student, and payment-related information.
  • Follow Howard University, Bison Hospitality, information-security, and payment-card security requirements.
  • Perform other technology-related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's, or graduate-level program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Business Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while recognizing when an issue should be escalated.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and following cybersecurity and data-protection practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience providing technical support or working in a help-desk environment.
  • Familiarity with POS systems, mobile-ordering platforms, or food-service technology.
  • Experience with Grubhub, campus dining applications, meal-plan systems, or online ordering platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of Wi-Fi networks, IP addresses, routers, switches, and connected devices.
  • Experience supporting printers, tablets, card readers, kiosks, or similar peripheral equipment.
  • Interest in hospitality technology, systems administration, or IT operations.
