Overview

About the Role

Leverages extensive subject matter expertise on clinical systems and knowledge of clinical operations and workflows to coordinate the activities of medical staff in the planning, development, implementation, and support of clinical information systems/solutions to improve the delivery of patient care and hospital operations. Advances efficient and effective patient care by adapting and integrating current hospital processes. Ensures the integration of clinical content across users and/or applications. Ensures that systems are implemented and functioning under the guidance of acceptable University policies and procedures and meet all regulatory requirements. Develops testing strategies according to system build and downstream system requirements. Develops and manages complex projects. Provides work direction and guidance to Analyst and Project Staff as needed. For the purpose of a project or assignment, may report to a Manager or Associate Director for assignments and tasks.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do  

  • Assists physicians, nurses, and other clinicians with design, implementation, workflow optimization, and issue resolution related to electronic health record (EHR) and other clinical applications.
  • Functions as a liaison between the clinical community and IT analysts, and a key resource for application and/or clinical workflows and software systems.
  • Develops and manages complex projects. Works with clinical users to understand clinical information technology project needs.
  • Recommends resource planning and support needs to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Oversees the design and development of application programs from analysis to implementation and assists with these duties as needed.
  • Creates system specification and workflow documents for new projects and/or features. Maintains existing specifications and project documents for complex clinical IT initiatives that include technical details, user expectations, project goals, work effort, accountability, and deliverables.
  • Coordinates the installation of software and/or hardware. Works in concert with other HST/IS&T Departments pertaining to the planning and implementation of systems to ensure that HST/IS&T standards are met.
  • Manages documentation and communication for problem determination and resolution. Researches complex issues and offers solutions.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree, with preference for Hospital Administration, a health related discipline (Nursing, Pharmacy, etc.), or related clinical field.
  • Licensure in a clinical profession is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in information systems with preference given to candidates within a hospital environment.
  • Extensive subject matter expertise on clinical systems and knowledge of clinical operations and workflows.
  • Direct experience with electronic medical records is a plus; prior Epic experience is highly desirable.
  • Must complete certification on Epic application specified by management within 6 months of training.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills working in a service-oriented environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Capable of functioning/leading in a team environment.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
  • Additional relevant experience, or clinical expertise, may be substituted for information systems experience.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is PS35S:  $112,753.00 - $136,646.00 - $163,282.00. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
