Job description

Are you a people person who thrives on creating memorable experiences? Our Guest Services Hosts are the welcoming faces that set the tone for incredible days at the Museum

As a Guest Services Host, you'll be the friendly connection between our Museum and its visitors. You'll work in dynamic, rotating venues and experiences throughout the building - from the Sturm Infinity Theater and Planetarium - to the main lobby, greeting guests, answering questions, and helping plan their perfect Museum visit. This role is highly interactive and puts you at the center of the guest experience. You'll deliver excellent guest service while supporting both daytime operations and after-hours events, each with unique Museum programming.

This is a temporary, winter seasonal position that will run from September-January 2026. This role primarily supports our daytime operation but will be required to support extended Friday evening hours and after-hours events as needed.

As a Seasonal Guest Services Host, you must be available to work most of the following holidays during the seasonal term including: Thanksgiving (11/26), Black Friday (11/27), Christmas Eve (12/24), New Years Eve (12/31), New Years Day (1/01). The Museum is closed on Christmas Day (12/25). 

Job Class: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal 
Hiring Range: $20/hour 
Work Schedule: 3-4 days/week. The weekly scheduled hours for this position are varied based on operational needs. You can generally expect to work 20-30 hours a week, but these hours may fluctuate.

Essential Duties
  • Provides engaging and meaningful guest experiences through outstanding customer service and assistance at various Museum venues, including during special events
  • Facilitate kiosk transactions: verifies eligibility and applies discounts, answers guest questions upon arrival to the Museum
  • Communicates the difference in membership levels and benefits to guests
  • Ushers guests into the Sturm Theater: scans tickets, distributes and collects 3D glasses, provides customer service in the theater
  • Ushers guests into the Planetarium Theater: scans tickets, runs show controls, and provides customer service in the theater
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Able to work holidays, weekends, and evenings
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with customers face-to-face and at least 6 months working in a fast-paced environment 
Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have
  • A passion for delivering engaging, welcoming, and memorable guest experiences in a public-facing environment
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with guests of all ages and backgrounds
  • Dependable, adaptable, flexible able to work 3-4 days a week including special events, weekends, evenings, and peak attendance periods as needed
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish/English)
Working Conditions
  • Ability to be in both stationary and rotating positions throughout shift
  • Continual operation of a desktop computer, mobile computer, scanner or other technical equipment
  • Sturm Theater and Planetarium: ability to ascend/descend stairs, provide equipment to guests, move and store strollers, move rolling racks and other equipment
  • Moderate physical activity required. Moves racks of 3D glasses, laptops, scanner, ticket stock, and ticket printers. Operates Virtual Reality experience when available: Calibrates and prepares VR headsets, assist with guest load in/out of the experience.
  • May work in a space with special effects such as visual and sensory enhancements, including atmospheric and lighting effects (strobe, laser)
  • Moderate noise (Museum floor, and theaters, medium to high traffic)
