About This Job

The mission of the Department of Insurance is to enforce the insurance laws and regulations of the state impartially, honestly and expeditiously. The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Insurance Specialist 1/2 to join the Office of Management & Finance/Louisiana Fortify Homes Program. This program helps strengthen homes across Louisiana by supporting homeowners through the grant application and review process. In this role, you'll review applications and supporting documents, verify eligibility for FORTIFIED Roof grants, and assist with responding to insurance-related questions and complaints. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties: As an Insurance Specialist 1/2 in the Office of Management & Finance/Louisiana Fortify Homes Program you will/may:

  • Review applications for Louisiana Fortify Homes Program grants to determine eligibility for FORTIFIED Roof funding, ensuring required documentation, inspections, insurance verification, and other program requirements are complete and accurate.
  • Evaluate grant applications and supporting documentation, make recommendations for approval or denial, and determine appropriate grant award amounts in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Conduct research and investigate inquiries and complaints involving property and casualty insurance laws, insurance contracts, and consumer concerns.
  • Review insurance rate and rule filings for compliance with the Louisiana Insurance Code and applicable regulations, and recommend approval or disapproval as appropriate.
  • Research insurance laws and regulations, analyze information, and prepare clear, professional correspondence regarding insurance inquiries, complaints, and program requirements.
  • Communicate with homeowners, insurance companies, insurance agents, and other stakeholders by telephone and written correspondence to provide guidance on insurance laws, regulations, and program requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and protect the confidentiality of sensitive information while supporting program operations and regulatory activities.
  • Participate in training and professional development to expand knowledge of Louisiana insurance laws, regulations, and departmental procedures as responsibilities progress.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
