TITLE: Wound Treatment Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
Non-Exempt
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The primary purpose of the Wound Treatment Manager is to oversee and coordinate the facility's wound care program in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures. The Wound Treatment Manager is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality wound prevention and treatment services, promoting optimal healing outcomes, reducing avoidable skin breakdown, educating staff, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to maintain the highest standards of resident care.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct and oversee the facility's wound care program to ensure compliance with physician orders, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based clinical practices.
- Perform comprehensive skin and wound assessments on residents upon admission, readmission, weekly, and as clinically indicated.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized wound treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
- Assess, stage, measure, photograph (when applicable), and document all wounds accurately and in accordance with facility policy.
- Provide or oversee wound treatments, dressing changes, and other prescribed therapies while ensuring proper infection prevention and control practices.
- Monitor residents' responses to treatments and communicate changes in wound status to attending physicians, nurse practitioners, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Conduct routine skin rounds and participate in clinical rounds to identify residents at risk for skin breakdown and implement preventative interventions.
- Monitor and evaluate wound healing outcomes and revise treatment plans as necessary.
- Maintain adequate inventory of wound care supplies, treatment equipment, and topical medications to ensure uninterrupted resident care.
- Ensure treatment carts are organized, stocked, and maintained according to facility standards and infection control guidelines.
- Review Treatment Administration Records (TARs) for accuracy and completeness, including monthly changeover.
- Monitor documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Investigate wound occurrences, skin integrity concerns, and pressure injuries, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions when appropriate.
- Develop and maintain wound care policies, procedures, and clinical protocols consistent with current standards of practice.
- Provide ongoing education, training, and competency validation for licensed nurses and nursing assistants regarding wound prevention, skin integrity, pressure injury prevention, and treatment techniques.
- Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff regarding wound care management and best practices.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities related to wound care, infection prevention, and skin integrity outcomes.
- Collect, monitor, and report wound care quality indicators and performance metrics to the Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance Committee.
- Collaborate with dietary services, rehabilitation, physicians, pharmacy, and other departments to optimize resident outcomes.
- Ensure timely physician and family notification of significant resident changes, including new wounds, skin breakdown, infections, or changes in treatment plans, with appropriate documentation.
- Participate in regulatory surveys, audits, and plan-of-correction activities related to wound care.
- Promote resident comfort, dignity, and quality of life while ensuring care is delivered in accordance with residents' rights.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- Demonstrates strong clinical leadership and sound nursing judgment.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate nursing staff.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Current, unrestricted Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or a related healthcare setting preferred.
- Previous wound care experience required.
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Wound care certification (WCC, WOCN, CWCN, or equivalent) preferred or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe is required.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities. Is required.
- Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and Microsoft Office applications.
- Current CPR certification required.
