We are currently seeking aSenior Mechanical Engineer to join our Custom Engineering team in Beauport, Quebec.Custom engineering plays a key role in the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical solutions tailored to the specific needs of our Life Sciences clients.As a design expert, the Engineer is involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from analyzing client requirements to implementing solutions. They actively participate in technical discussions with clients and contribute to strategic engineering decisions.

Please note that this is afull-time, permanent and fully remote position.

What you will do as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at STERIS
  • Design, develop, document, and implement mechanical and/or electromechanical solutions within a custom project environment;
  • Define and propose complete washing solutions tailored to client applications, taking into account technical, operational, and regulatory requirements;
  • Analyze clients' technical needs and contribute to proposal preparation, including concept development, feasibility assessments, and cost estimates;
  • Actively participate in internal design reviews and technical reviews with clients;
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles in mechanics, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, finite element analysis (FEA), and materials science to develop solutions for life sciences equipment;
  • Identify root causes of technical issues, propose sustainable solutions, and validate concepts in accordance with engineering best practices;
  • Apply DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) principles to ensure robust, manufacturable, and optimized designs;
  • Collaborate closely with project management, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to ensure efficient and consistent project execution;
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences;Execute assignments with a high degree of autonomy while identifying risks and meeting project timelines;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the optimization of departmental processes.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and member in good standing with the engineering regulatory body in your province of residence;
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design,
  • Proficiency with 3D design and modeling software, such as PTC Creo,SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and CATIA, as well as 2D drafting software such as AutoCAD;
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including welded fabrications, machining, and assembly, with the ability to develop manufacturable and optimized designs in accordance with DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) principles;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills;
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to share knowledge, recommend alternative solutions, and make sound technical decisions based on informed risk assessments;
  • Commitment to operational excellence, LEAN principles, and continuous improvement;
  • Ability to produce detailed, accurate, and high-quality technical documentation.

Asset

  • Experience with analysis and simulation software such as ANSYS for Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), thermal analysis, and related applications;
  • Knowledge of technical documentation, analysis, and communication tools, including Microsoft Office and PLM systems (e.g., Windchill, Vault) for technical data management and engineering change control
