      Base Pay Range: $73,382 - $119,808 per year, based on experience

The Infection Control Professional will survey, classify, and analyze hospital-acquired infections and recommend and coordinate ways to limit the spread of infectious diseases within MU Health Care.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

      Act as infection control liaison between hospital departments and medical services, the Infection Control Committee, hospital administration, and public health authorities.

      Conduct community follow-ups of discharged patients possibly exposed to infections while hospitalized.

      Consult with nursing and clinic management and make recommendations on practices, policies, and procedures relating to the control of infections. Assist in designing and conducting research studies related to infection control.

      Exercise independent judgment in evaluating high-risk situations and epidemiological hazards.

      Identify and classify healthcare-acquired infections. Work with attending and resident physicians to establish safe management of infected patients.

      Prepare, present, or coordinate in-service infection control education programs for employees at all levels.

      Coordinate with Staff Health Services in handling employee exposures to communicable diseases.

      Provide Infection Prevention and Control expertise and oversight for construction and renovation activities, including pre-project planning, barrier placement, and integrity monitoring and approval before occupancy.

      May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Bachelor's degree.

      Two (2) years of clinical experience

      One of the following:

o   Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days, or

o   Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) or (RCP-T) licensure by the Missouri Respiratory Care board, or

o   Certification: Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS or IMLS), categorical or specialist technologist (such as Chemistry, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, Microbiology, Blood Banking, Molecular Biology) by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Certified Point of Care Professional (CPP) by American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), or Clinical Laboratory Technologist by former Dept of Health Education & Welfare (HEW/HHS).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Experience in infection control and/or training in epidemiology.

      Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 lbs. and occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs.

This role may also routinely come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required
