Job description

Location: Paducah, Kentucky
Title: Instrument Mechanic
Schedule (FT/PT): Regular Full Time
Travel Required: No

NWD specializes in facilities maintenance, management, and operations support, delivering reliable, mission-aligned services that ensure smooth day-to-day operations and long-term infrastructure resilience. Services include: base operations support services; facilities management/maintenance (MEP, etc.); landscaping, janitorial & pest control; environmental support (waste management, exposure assessments, etc.); safety and quality management; training & records management; IT data center management; safeguards, security & access controls; equipment maintenance; logistics and materials management.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Performs instrument mechanic duties and any other duties as may be required under supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adheres to all site safety and operating procedures for the equipment being driven and operated.
  • Follows procedures and work control documents.
  • Task specific training will be provided for specified equipment.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping and may be assigned other duties incidental to the work as required by supervision.
  • Follows all NWD policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written/verbal) with all personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of an accredited two-year program in the study of electronics at a vocational/technical school or equivalent preferred

Special Requirements:
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Commercial Driver's License (as required)
  • Must be able to meet physical capacity requirements of position as determined by the Occupational Medical Provider
  • Must be able to wear company-provided personal protection equipment when required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance
  • Must be able to operate a government vehicle

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 30 months' experience in the maintenance of industrial instrumentation or electronic work (i.e., data communications) equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to work in hot or unpleasant environments for extended periods of time.
  • Could be included in the temperature extremes monitoring program Lift and carry objects, materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles. The employee must be able to stand for long periods and walk across uneven terrain.
