Job Title: Industrial Engineer 2

Job Description

The Industrial Engineer 2 designs, develops, tests, and evaluates integrated systems for managing industrial production processes, including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics, material flow, cost analysis, and production coordination. This role focuses on increasing productivity through effective management of people, optimization of business organization methods, and application of technology, with a strong emphasis on ergonomic and manufacturing support in an automotive production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives for finished products.
  • Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient use of staff and facilities.
  • Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, materials, and utilities to enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Plan and establish sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products, ensuring efficient and streamlined production processes.
  • Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staffing requirements, and production standards.
  • Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production issues, maximize product reliability, and minimize costs.
  • Estimate production costs and assess the impact of product design changes to support management review, decision-making, and control.
  • Draft and design layouts of equipment, materials, and workspaces using drafting tools and computer software to illustrate maximum efficiency.
  • Use ergonomic analysis tools and conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate ergonomic risks in manufacturing and assembly environments.
  • Provide ergonomic and manufacturing support at assembly facilities prior to product launch, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Organize, plan, and execute manufacturing and ergonomic projects, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within defined parameters.
  • Manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and resources effectively.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of customer needs, issues, and priorities by routinely seeking and incorporating customer feedback.
  • Work toward planned targets, overcoming obstacles, setbacks, and uncertainty by applying appropriate processes and problem-solving techniques.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 2–4 years of industrial engineering or closely related experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience using ergonomic analysis tools and performing ergonomic risk assessments.
  • At least 2 years of experience in automotive, manufacturing, or other relevant industrial environments.
  • At least 1 year of Digital Human Modeling experience, with PS Human or Siemens Jack preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and execute manufacturing and ergonomic projects.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and programs concurrently.
  • High level of analytical ability and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop a detailed understanding of customer needs, issues, and priorities through regular engagement and feedback.
  • Demonstrated focus on achieving planned targets, effectively navigating obstacles and uncertainty while using structured processes.
  • Interest in learning new technologies and software and in broadening skills across different technical areas.

Work Environment

This role involves a blend of on-site work across multiple automotive facilities, including time spent in Warren, Hamtramck and Lansing for several weeks each month. The Industrial Engineer 2 will spend significant time at assembly facilities to provide ergonomic and manufacturing support prior to product launches and may occasionally visit supplier locations as needed. The immediate team typically consists of about ten engineers, each responsible for different programs, fostering a collaborative, project-focused environment. The organization places strong emphasis on worker safety, community engagement, and being a workplace of choice, and it offers opportunities for contract employees to potentially move into direct hire roles, learn new technologies and software, and broaden their horizons in different areas and skill sets. Work is primarily conducted in industrial and office settings using standard engineering tools, drafting software, and digital human modeling technologies, with a professional attire appropriate for both office and manufacturing floor environments.

This is a Contract position based out of Warren, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
