Organizational Summary

Franciscan Outreach is a leading provider of homeless services in Chicago. We operate as a system of support for people who are marginalized and experiencing homelessness, and we empower them to gain the stability they need to transition into permanent housing. Grounded in the Franciscan tradition, we serve everyone regardless of their beliefs, and we do not require participation in religious services. Position Description

The Individual Giving Manager grows individual revenue for Franciscan Outreach and feeds the major gift pipeline. This role manages a portfolio of 75 to 100 individual donors and prospects, moving them through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and owns the annual fund and the appeals that fund the mission.

The Manager rates and researches prospects, writes the appeals and the newsletter, and supervises the Development Operations Coordinator, who keeps the data, moves tracking, and appeals production running. The Manager works closely with the Senior Director on donor strategy and communication voice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Individual donor portfolio and major gifts (35% of time)

  • Manage a portfolio of 75 to 100 individual donors and prospects.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts.
  • Record contacts and set next steps, tracking all moves in DonorPerfect.
  • Collaborate with the Special Events and Community Engagement Manager and Volunteer and Communications Coordinator on donor cultivation events, shaping the guest list and the cultivation purpose, and attending the events.
  • Support the gala by engaging and stewarding the donors who attend.
  • Annual fund and appeals (25% of time)

  • Own the annual fund strategy and the appeals calendar, including the summer and fall appeals, Giving Tuesday, and the yearend appeal.
  • Write the appeals and the newsletter, working from the brand voice the Senior Director sets.
  • Prospect rating and research (15% of time)

  • Rate prospects on capacity, affinity, and propensity using DonorSearch wealth screening, assign ratings, and rerate as new information surfaces.
  • Identify and qualify new individual prospects.
  • Supervision and operations partnership (15% of time)

  • Supervise the Development Operations Coordinator, set weekly priorities, and ensure accurate gift entry, data integrity, and timely reporting.
  • Set clear production and data support expectations so the Coordinator serves the whole team well.
  • Stewardship (10% of time)
  • Steward individual donors with timely, personal acknowledgment and ongoing engagement.
  • Supply donor stories and content for social media and digital channels.
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Direct fundraising or sales experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and genuine interest in donor interactions.
  • Strong solicitation skills.
  • Experience with donor or sales tracking.
  • Excellent writing skills for appeals and donor communications.
  • Supervisory experience or readiness.
  • Commitment to dignitycentered work and to the mission of serving our guests.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of fundraising or sales experience, with a record of securing individual gifts or client sales.
  • Ability and willingness to attend occasional evening and weekend donor cultivation events.
  • Reliable access to transportation for donor visits and meetings.
  • Health and Safety Requirements
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards through administrative updates compliant with federal law.
