Job description
Do you know how to build respectful and reciprocal relationships with our Indigenous communities? Are you someone who is grounded in cultural understanding and guided by principles of reconciliation? Would you like to be instrumental in ensuring that Indigenous voices are meaningfully included in our projects? If you answered yes, this may be the role for you. What will you be doing!
- Communicating with Indigenous Nations, communities and organizations to share relevant Whiteshell Laboratories Restoration Project (WLRP) information, updates and disclosures through email, phone, in-person meetings, and at events.
- Creating communications content as required and coordinating the consolidation of content required from other CNL departments.
- Recording meeting notes and actions in Indigenous meetings; tracking actions, following up on progress with those assigned to complete the actions.
- Tracking activities related to memoranda of understanding, relationship agreements and other agreements, as well as community-specific engagement and communications strategies.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant area of study (e.g. Indigenous studies and/or communications and/or environmental sciences or related field).
- Experience
- Three to five years' experience working in Indigenous relations and/ or communications or engagement.
- Experience working in Indigenous communities is an asset.
- Experience communicating in group forums with Indigenous Nations and organizations at the member, citizen, and staff levels is an asset.
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team is an asset.
- Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as having Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Metis or Inuit).
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to connect and promote collaborative engagement with Indigenous Nations, communities, and organization representatives in a culturally appropriate way.
- Understanding of traditional use studies and their meaningful consideration and integration in projects and operations.
- Superior written and oral skills, including composition, grammar, terminology, writing style and approach in preparing effective, well-written, high-quality, informative content and reports for a variety of technical and public audiences.
- Ability to communicate complex technical/scientific/environmental information to public audiences in clear, understandable language.
- Strong priority management and project management skills, with superior ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects with diverse requirements and deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. Working Conditions:
- Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
- We have a compressed workweek: four days, ten hours per day, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
