Job description

Vestmark is seeking a VP, Product Management to own the strategy and roadmap for the portfolio management capabilities within the Vestmark platform and more specifically Vestmark VAST.  VAST is Vestmark's direct indexing and tax-aware portfolio management platform, built to deliver "Personalized Investing at Scale." Managed by Vestmark Advisory Solutions (VAS), VAST combines a proprietary risk-based optimization engine with a rules-driven alerts and trading workflow to personalize and tax-manage thousands of accounts.

This is a subject-matter-expert role: you will be the definitive product voice and decision-maker for how Vestmark's multi-sleeve, multi-manager portfolio construction, trading, and rebalancing tools work - and how those capabilities get delivered to the wealth management channel (broker-dealers, RIAs, TAMPs, and bank trust programs) as well as the asset managers and overlay managers who operate within them.

The ideal candidate has built quantitative portfolio management technology solutions for asset managers and deeply understands how UMA sleeve structures, overlay trading, tax management, and rebalancing engines work in practice. You know the difference between sleeve-level performance attribution and household-level asset location rebalancing, you understand trading discretion at the account vs. sleeve level, and you can translate that operational fluency into a platform roadmap that scales across dozens of sponsor programs and thousands of accounts.

You will partner closely with engineering and client delivery to design and ship systems that Portfolio Managers want to use, while ensuring those solutions are commercially viable and configurable for Vestmark's wealth management sponsor clients. Given the natural overlap between this role's product surface and Vestmark Advisory Solutions' (VAS) own portfolio management team, you will maintain a strong working relationship with VAS leadership to ensure the roadmap reflects real, day-to-day portfolio management needs.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy, vision, and roadmap for UMA, SMA, and multi-sleeve portfolio construction, overlay trading, and rebalancing capabilities across the VAST platform.
  • Translate the operational realities of Portfolio Management - trading discretion, sleeve vs. account-level rebalancing, cash coordination across sleeves, tax overlay management, composite/performance attribution - into clear, prioritized product requirements
  • Act as the internal subject-matter authority on UMA structures (sleeves, base sleeves, overlay managers, manager-traded sleeves, flexible/custom models) and how they intersect with household-level asset location rebalancing
  • Partner with engineering and design to architect scalable solutions that serve both large wirehouse/broker-dealer UMA programs and asset manager/overlay manager workflows
  • Work directly with Portfolio Managers, overlay managers, and asset manager partners (both internal at VAS and external sponsor-side clients) to gather requirements and validate solutions before and after delivery
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the Advisory Solutions (VAS) organization, ensuring the product roadmap reflects the needs of Vestmark's own Portfolio Management team as a proving ground for the broader wealth channel
  • Define and prioritize the backlog for your product area, balancing strategic platform investments against client-specific and regulatory-driven commitments
  • Represent Vestmark's UMA and portfolio management capabilities in client and prospect conversations, RFPs, and executive business reviews
  • Partner with Sales, Relationship Management, and Client Delivery to ensure new and existing wealth management clients can successfully adopt and scale on the platform
  • Stay current on industry trends in managed accounts, direct indexing, tax management, and multi-manager portfolio construction, and translate them into platform investment decisions
  • Contribute to the growth and development of our core values: We Before Me, Positive Energy, Knowledge Explorer, and Own It

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, portfolio management, or investment technology roles within the wealth management or asset management industry
  • Deep understanding of managed account concepts: sleeves, overlay management, trading discretion (account vs. sleeve level), rebalancing engines, tax transition/tax-loss harvesting, and composite performance attribution
  • Proven ability to translate complex investment operations concepts into product requirements and user experiences for both internal Portfolio Managers and external sponsor/wealth management clients
  • Experience delivering platform capabilities to a wealth management or broker-dealer/RIA/TAMP audience (the "wealth channel"), ideally including exposure to multi-manager or model marketplace distribution
  • Strong track record partnering with engineering and design teams to ship complex, scalable financial technology solutions.  Ability to work with cross-functional teams including service, marketing, sales, account management to understand product requirements and launch new products.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence; comfortable presenting to clients, prospects, and senior internal stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree required; CFA, CIMA, or similar investment credential a plus

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with optimization and rebalancing tools (e.g., Northfield, BARRA/Axioma) and how they inform sleeve-level and household-level trading decisions
  • Experience owning product for platforms that integrate portfolio optimization engines (e.g., Northfield, Barra, or similar) into automated, rules-based trading and rebalancing workflows.
  • Background at a wirehouse, broker-dealer, RIA aggregator, TAMP, or an asset manager delivering tax-managed investment solutions.
