About Us

Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials. Heidelberg Materials North America operates over 450 locations across the U.S. and Canada with approximately 9,000 employees.

The Plant Operator supports Asphalt Operations across our Acheson and Edmonton East plants. This full-time role will work between both locations and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of asphalt production equipment while supporting plant maintenance, product quality, and day-to-day production requirements. We are looking for a safety-focused, mechanically inclined individual who is motivated to learn and grow within our asphalt operations team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust asphalt plant equipment to meet production targets, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Perform plant start-up, operation, shutdown, and routine inspections while ensuring compliance with safety and operating procedures.
  • Monitor plant controls, material flow, temperatures, and equipment performance; troubleshoot issues and implement operational adjustments as needed.
  • Complete preventative maintenance, lubrication, housekeeping, and minor repairs to support safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
  • Collaborate with production, quality control, maintenance, trucking, and plant teams to support schedules, maintain product quality, and achieve operational goals.

What Are We Looking For

  • Experience operating industrial plant equipment, with the ability and willingness to learn asphalt production systems, processes, and maintenance practices.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify equipment issues, support troubleshooting efforts, and perform routine maintenance activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, reliability, and working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with operations, maintenance, quality control, and trucking teams.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence, reliable transportation to multiple work locations, and the ability to meet applicable employment and union membership requirements.

Conditions of Employment

  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination and background check.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Verification of age will be required as a condition of employment.

Work Environment

  • Industrial asphalt production environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, hot materials, and moving equipment.
  • Hands-on role requiring regular time in the plant and production areas, including climbing stairs and ladders and performing physical maintenance activities.
  • Outdoor work in changing weather conditions throughout the operating season.
  • Collaborative team environment focused on safety, reliability, quality, and continuous improvement.
