Job description

Reporting Relationships:
  1. Director of Project Services
  2. Production Office Supervisor
  3. Sub-Fabrication Coordinator

Primary Purpose of this Position:
Manage the process of contracting fabrication services from outside sources to supplement our own production capabilities, ensuring that a quality product is delivered within the time and budget constraints given.
Essential Job Functions:
  1. Collaborate with the Preconstruction, Project Management, Production, and Engineering departments to evaluate project needs and identify qualified sub-fabricators when outsourced fabrication is required.
  2. Negotiate, issue, and administer subcontract agreements with qualified sub-fabricators while ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, quality, and budget requirements.
  3. Assist in evaluating, qualifying, and maintaining approved sub-fabricators to ensure they meet Company quality, capacity, safety, and performance expectations.
  4. Develop and coordinate project schedules with Project Management, Engineering, Production, and sub-fabricators to establish achievable fabrication and delivery timelines.
  5. Partner with the Project Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Shipping, Production, and Quality departments to support the successful execution of outsourced fabrication projects.
  6. Assist estimators in obtaining subcontract fabrication pricing and evaluating fabrication options during the bidding and preconstruction process.
  7. Monitor the progress of outsourced fabrication projects and proactively communicate schedule, quality, scope, or cost impacts with internal stakeholders and sub-fabricators to minimize project risk.
  8. Represent the Company professionally when interacting with customers, prospective customers, vendors, subcontract fabricators, architects, engineers, and other trade contractors. Participate on cross-functional teams, as requested, to improve processes, profitability, efficiency, and customer service.
  9. Coordinate with Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to ensure materials, drawings, specifications, and other required project information are delivered to sub-fabricators accurately and on schedule.
  10. Serve as the primary liaison between DWS and sub-fabricators while ensuring DWS remains the primary point of contact for customers and that outsourced fabrication is seamless from the customer's perspective.
  11. Ensure work fabricated by outside sources meets the same quality standards expected of DWS. Verify that sub-fabricators maintain effective quality control systems and consistently follow established procedures and applicable industry standards.
  12. Maintain accurate documentation related to subcontract fabrication activities, including subcontract agreements, schedules, correspondence, change documentation, and project records.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Office Supervisor or Director of Project Services.

  10. Strong professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build productive relationships with customers, subcontract fabricators, vendors, project managers, engineers and internal operations teams
  11. Ability to communicate scope, schedule, drawing and material requirements, quality expectations, changes and risks clearly, accurately and in a timely manner
  12. Ability to lead difficult schedule, quality or performance discussions professionally while maintaining accountability and productive business relationships
  13. Ability to evaluate subcontractor and vendor capabilities, capacity, schedules, quality systems and overall performance
  14. Working knowledge of purchase orders, subcontract agreements, change management and basic project cost and schedule controls

Physical Demands:
  1. Stand OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  2. Walk OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift. The distances walked will range from a distance of a few feet to several hundred feet.
  3. Sit FREQUENTLY to CONTINUOUSLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  4. Lift weights up to 30 pounds OCCASIONALLY from floor to head level, which includes the various prints, books, binders, and papers utilized to perform the usual work duties.
  5. Lift weights up to 50 pounds RARELY to OCCASIONALLY from floor to chest level, which may include boxes of papers, books, etc.
  6. Carry weights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to several hundred feet. 50 pounds would be carried 50 feet. Lifting devices are available.
  7. Climb OCCASIONALLY onto steps or ladders.
  8. Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing the regular job duties. Tasks would include looking in filing cabinets, removing supplies, and restocking paper in the copier. The position will be held continuously for a few seconds to a few minutes, depending upon task.
  9. Kneel OCCASIONALLY in the commission of job duties, depending upon the task.
  10. Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 10 feet to plug in equipment, retrieve dropped materials, etc.
  11. Reach forward OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to perform job duties or to retrieve tools. The employee will OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY be required to reach to full forward extension.
  12. Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to retrieve books, supplies, etc.
  13. Push and pull drawers open OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to retrieve tools or supplies.
  14. Gross finger dexterity skills required operating the mouse utilized in the course of standard job duties. Fine finger dexterity is not required.

Non-Material Handling Demands:
  1. Employee is expected to work 40 hours a week. However, hours including overtime and weekends may be required based on Drake-Williams Steel's needs.
  2. Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.
  3. Visual ability to read and interpret material to satisfactorily do job.
  4. Exposure to heat, cold, wet and humid conditions OCCASIONALLY.
  5. Exposure to fumes, odors and dusts OCCASIONALLY.
  6. Exposure to solvents, greases, oils, and coolants OCCASIONALLY.
  7. Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.

Tools Required:
Computer, telephone, printer, copier/scanner, calculator, and other standard office equipment and supplies.
Experience and Education Required:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  4. Three or more years of relevant experience in structural steel fabrication, commercial construction, manufacturing, project coordination, purchasing, or vendor/subcontractor management preferred.
  5. Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with customers, vendors, subcontractors, or internal stakeholders regarding project scope, schedules, materials, drawings, quality concerns, and delivery commitments.
  6. Experience working in an AISC-certified structural steel fabrication environment preferred.
