Job description

Job Summary

The Senior Structural Engineer will lead the development of structural drawings and specifications for a variety of projects, ensuring precision and clarity for our clients in the Midwest. They will perform advanced structural analysis and design, applying expertise to create safe and efficient structures. This role requires conducting comprehensive investigations of existing conditions, identifying potential issues, and preparing detailed reports. This person will coordinate closely with other disciplines, facilitating effective communication and collaboration to achieve integrated design solutions.

Responsibilities ย 
  • Perform structural analysis and design of various structures with an emphasis on concrete, steel, and masonry.
  • Develop and maintain project structural drawings and specifications in accordance with building codes.
  • Conduct existing conditions investigations and prepare associated reports.
  • Ensure cross-discipline coordination with other engineering departments.
  • Provide construction phase support including reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, etc.
  • Contributes to the development and coordination of geotechnical subcontractor scopes of work for small or simple sites in conjunction with Design Manager and BC geotechnical specialists.
  • Support strategic projects and initiatives on an as-needed basis.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Mentorship
  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.
Skills and Competencies
  • Adept at performing structural analysis and design in accordance with industry standards.
  • Proficiency in understanding and following building codes and regulations, including ACI 318, ACI 350, AISC 360, IBC, ASCE 7.
  • Familiarity with various materials including concrete, steel, and masonry.
  • Ability to handle strategic projects independently with limited supervision.
Experience
  • Typically, a minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering or a related field.
  • Has achieved or is working towards achieving professional license (PE or SE).
  • Typically certified in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with RISA or STAAD or other software for structural design
  • Structural design experience with wastewater treatment plant or industrial facilities preferred; commercial design experience is a plus.
Education
  • A bachelorโ€™s degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering or equivalent relevant experience is required.

Salary Range:ย Theย anticipatedย starting payย range for this position is based on the employeeโ€™s primary work location and mayย beย more or lessย dependingย upon skills, experience,ย and education.ย  These ranges may be modified in the future.ย ย 

Location A: $95,000 - $129,000
Location B: $104,000 - $142,000
Location C: $114,000 - $155,000
