Looking for an opportunity to make a real impact on transportation infrastructure? Join our Transportation team as a CEI Inspector at any experience level in Columbia, Florence, Myrtle Beach, Greenville/Spartanburg, Charleston, Gaffney, Orangeburg, Hardeeville, and nearby regions. You'll have the opportunity to grow your technical skills, collaborate with experienced industry professionals, and help deliver transportation projects like roadways, bridges, greenways, airports, ports, and rail transportation that positively impact communities across South Carolina.

What You Will Do:
As a CEI Bridge and Roadway Inspector, you will play a vital role in overseeing transportation construction projects. In this position, you'll ensure quality, compliance, and safety by performing field inspections, monitoring contractor activities, conducting material testing, and maintaining detailed documentation. Your work will help guarantee that projects meet design specifications, environmental regulations, and contractual requirements, making a direct impact on the success of critical infrastructure projects.
  • Project Oversight & Field Inspection: Monitor daily construction activities-including land clearing, grading, paving, bridge work, and traffic control-to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Material Sampling & Testing: Collect construction material samples and perform basic field tests to ensure adherence to project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate inspection logs, prepare daily reports, track project progress, and document contractor payment details and any nonconformities.
  • Regulatory & Environmental Compliance: Inspect erosion control devices, review environmental measures, ensure compliance with permits, DBE, and EEO requirements.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration: Attend progress and safety meetings, interact with contractors, engineers, and client representatives, and provide timely updates on project status.

Compensation is based on experience, with additional bonuses for holding relevant certifications.
Who We're Looking For:
We are looking for detail-oriented professionals who take pride in quality and safety and enjoy working with their hands in outdoor environments who have experience with transportation or civil construction projects. Strong communication skills, the ability to interpret plans and specifications, and proficiency in documentation are essential. You should be adaptable, collaborative, and eager to learn.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • High school diploma/GED
    • Highway-related construction or inspection experience, a plus
    • You have a technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology will equate to 1 year of experience
  • Certifications: One or more active SCDOT-based certifications, a plus:
  • Key Competencies:
    • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
    • Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
    • An understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
This role involves hands-on work in outdoor environments, and with Company-provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), you'll need to be comfortable with:
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions majority of the time
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Exposure to highway traffic, heavy machinery
  • Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project need arise
