Job description

Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is a 58-year-old African American institution and nonprofit serving a multi-cultural community of 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. The organization is a major resource hub expanding services within the South Minneapolis community.
Title: Supervised Visit Monitor (Independent Contractor)
Program: Supervised Visitation Program - Sabathani Community Center
Compensation: $20-35 per hour, based on experience
Hours: Variable; determined by scheduled visitations
Location: Sabathani Community Center and/or designated visitationlocations
Reports to: Director of Health Equity
Job Description:
Sabathani Community Center's Supervised Visitation Program, funded by Hennepin County, provides court-ordered supervised visitation services to families involved with Child Protection. The program ensures safe and structured parent-child contact, incorporates parenting education, and follows Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) standards.
Sabathani Community Center is seeking dependable and professional Independent Contractors to serve as Supervised Visit Monitors within our court-ordered Supervised Visitation Program. Monitors ensure that parent-child visits are safe, neutral, and supportive by observing interactions, documenting activity, and maintaining compliance with program and DHS standards. This is an independent contractor role; contractors are not employees of Sabathani Community Center and are responsible for their own schedules, tax obligations, and professional liability coverage.
The physical duties associated with this position are consistent with duties associated with work performed in an office setting. This job description serves only as a general description of the anticipated day-to-day responsibilities of the position. Key Responsibilities:
Visit Facilitation & Safety
• Facilitate and monitor court-ordered visits between parents/guardians and children, ensuring a safe, neutral, and structured environment.
• Provide visits as outlined by the referral source, which may include limited hands-on assistance and education in support of family goals.
• Clearly define the rules of visitation with all parties and intervene or terminate visits when safety or compliance issues arise.
• Maintain confidentiality of all client information in compliance with applicable laws and Sabathani standards.
Documentation & Feedback
• Provide written and verbal feedback to participants regarding conduct and progress, as appropriate.
• Document family interactions with objective, factual notes after each session.
• Prepare case notes, reports, and updates that reflect outcomes, challenges, and family progress.
Collaboration & Support
• Support ongoing assessment of family needs and progress toward case goals.
• Offer feedback that can assist in developing supportive parenting strategies and case plan goals.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with referring agencies, county staff, and relevant community providers.
• Provide families with information about resources and supportive opportunities in the community.
• Actively participate in required program meetings, trainings, and collaborative discussions to strengthen service delivery.
Flexibility
• Be available for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, as visit schedules require.
• In limited cases, assist with scheduling and transportation as outlined in case plans.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Associate's degree in social work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field required.
• Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
Experience:
• Prior experience working with families involved in child protection, child welfare, or family court systems strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, trauma-informed practices, and cultural humility.
• Strong observation, documentation, and written communication skills.
• Ability to remain neutral, objective, and calm in potentially high-conflict situations.
• Must pass a criminal background check and DHS disqualification screening.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means.
• Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies.
• Ability to adapt to change. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations. Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel; PowerPoint and Access a plus.
• Ability to think analytically and evaluate the impact of case management recommendations.
• Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate and create solutions to work related problems.
• Ability to maintain boundaries.
• Knowledge of case management services and community resources.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
• Must maintain current CPR, AED, and BBP certifications.
• Valid MN Drivers' License, access to reliable transportation and the ability to meet Sabathani's driving record requirements.
Working conditions and Environment:
This contract is based at Sabathani Community Center, with some duties and responsibilities to be performed both on-site and in the community. The building is accessible and smoke-free. Contractors set flexible schedules in coordination with program needs, which may include evening and/or weekend hours.
