What is an independent contractor offshore?

An Independent Contractor Offshore is a self-employed individual or business entity that provides services to clients in a different country, typically outside the client’s home nation. These contractors work remotely and are not considered employees, which means they manage their own taxes, schedules, and work processes. Companies often engage offshore independent contractors to access specialized skills or cost efficiencies, while the contractor maintains autonomy over how the work is completed. However, both parties must ensure compliance with local labor laws and international regulations. Clear contracts and communication are essential to successful offshore contractor relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an independent contractor offshore?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Offshore, you need expertise in your trade (such as engineering, welding, or drilling), relevant offshore certifications (like BOSIET or HUET), and a proven safety record. Familiarity with offshore safety protocols, specialized equipment, and project management or reporting systems is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective communication are essential soft skills for working independently and within diverse teams in remote environments. These skills are crucial for ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and safety in challenging offshore conditions.

What are some common challenges faced by independent contractors working offshore, and how can they be managed effectively?

Independent Contractors working offshore often encounter challenges such as adapting to different time zones, communication barriers with onshore teams, and navigating varying safety and regulatory requirements. To manage these effectively, contractors should establish clear communication channels, stay updated on local and international compliance standards, and proactively coordinate schedules to accommodate time differences. Building strong relationships with both the offshore and onshore teams can also foster smoother collaboration and ensure project success.

Job description

Independent Contractor – CPT-11438 Credit Processing & Client Operations Virtual Assistant/Business Support VA/Junior-Senior Level (Remote)

20four7VA is seeking offshore independent contractors to deliver remote services to clients worldwide, with a primary focus on developed markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

A growing business consulting firm specializing in business funding and credit-related services is seeking a part-time Credit Processing & Client Operations Virtual Assistant to support recurring client-processing workflows. The immediate focus is credit-related processing, including dispute packet preparation, bureau follow-up calls, reviewing client account updates, documenting activity, and maintaining organized client records. The client has approximately 100 active and inactive client accounts, detailed SOPs within Notion, historical communication in Slack, and existing training materials. She is looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of loan processing and can become increasingly independent after learning the company's specific workflows. The objective of each engagement is to assist the client in improving business efficiency, enhancing service delivery, or supporting operational functions through high-quality, task-specific services rendered by a qualified contractor.

Contractors will be required to provide services that align with the following client tasks:

Credit Processing Support
  • Assist with preparing dispute packets using established client procedures
  • Review client credit information and supporting documentation
  • Log into approved client/bureau platforms to review available updates
  • Track dispute cycles, follow-up dates, and outstanding actions
  • Document completed work and account updates accurately
  • Follow established SOPs for recurring credit-processing activities
Bureau & Client Follow-Up
  • Conduct bureau-related calls using approved processes and scripts
  • Gather and document relevant information from calls
  • Maintain clear notes and updates within client records
  • Escalate unusual issues or questions to the client when necessary
  • Support routine client follow-up related to required documentation or account progress
Administrative & Operations Support
  • Maintain accurate client information within GoHighLevel
  • Use Slack for internal communication and status updates
  • Follow and maintain SOPs within Notion
  • Organize documentation and ensure assigned client tasks are completed on schedule
  • Assist with additional administrative and executive-support responsibilities as the role develops

Each engagement is based on a defined scope of work and is governed by an independent contractor agreement. Services must be performed professionally, with adherence to any timelines, guidelines, and deliverables agreed upon in writing.

The Contractor must demonstrate proficiency in the following, depending on the Client's requirements:

  • Loan processing, mortgage processing, financial documentation, or similar processing experience is strongly preferred
  • Executive assistant or business support experience strongly preferred
  • Previous credit repair, credit education, dispute-processing, or related experience strongly preferred (these candidates should take priority over loan processing or mortgage applicants)
  • GoHighLevel experience strongly preferred
  • Slack and Notion experience strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal English communication required
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy required
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Previous hands-on loan processing or credit repair or mortgage support experience
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong documentation habits
  • Clear and professional communicator
  • Comfortable conducting bureau-related phone calls
  • Organized and capable of managing multiple client files
  • Able to follow detailed SOPs while becoming increasingly independent
  • Comfortable asking appropriate questions during training and applying feedback consistently
Application Software Knowledgeable / Required
  • GoHighLevel
  • Slack
  • Notion
  • Credit / Bureau Platforms
  • Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
Work Schedule
  • Contracted Hours per Week: 20 Hours (hours will increase based on performance)
  • Scheduled Working Days: Monday through Friday (unless otherwise mutually agreed in writing)
  • Daily Working Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM CST (1-hour lunch from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)

Note: The Company will make reasonable efforts to align the Assigned VA's schedule with the Client's preferred hours as set forth above. However, availability may vary based on time zones, capacity, and the contracted hours set in this SOW. Any changes must be mutually agreed to in writing through a revised SOW.

Terms of Engagement
  • Contractors will operate under a Master Services Agreement and a Statement of Work
  • This is not an offer of employment; contractors are not employees of 20four7VA or any client
