What is an independent contractor notary signing agent?

An Independent Contractor Notary Signing Agent is a commissioned notary public who is hired on a contract basis to facilitate the signing of important documents, most commonly in real estate transactions such as mortgage closings. They ensure that documents are properly signed, dated, and notarized, and that the signing process complies with legal requirements. Unlike employees, they work independently, often for multiple title companies, lenders, or signing services. Their role helps prevent fraud and ensures the authenticity of signatures on legal documents.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an independent contractor notary signing agent?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Notary Signing Agent, you need a valid notary commission, a thorough understanding of loan documents, and attention to detail. Familiarity with digital signing platforms, secure document handling, and possessing certification from organizations like the National Notary Association are typically required. Exceptional communication, reliability, and professionalism help build trust with clients and facilitate smooth closings. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring legal compliance, preventing errors, and fostering repeat business in a highly regulated industry.

What are some common challenges faced by independent contractor notary signing agents, and how can they be managed?

Independent Contractor Notary Signing Agents often face challenges such as managing a fluctuating workload, coordinating with multiple signing services or title companies, and ensuring accuracy under tight deadlines. Job description

About Primary Freight
Primary Freight is a freight brokerage with eight agent branches across the United States. As part of Primary Companies, we work alongside our asset based trucking operations, pallet manufacturing, and sawmill divisions to offer customers complete logistics solutions.
About the Role
We are looking for experienced Freight Agents to join our network as independent contractors. This is a 1099 contract position, not a W2 employee role, and compensation is 100% commission with no base pay. We state this upfront because this structure works best for agents who already have freight experience and an existing or transferable book of business.
As a Freight Agent, you bring your customer relationships and book the freight. Primary Freight provides the back office, technology, insurance, and carrier network so you can focus on moving loads and growing your accounts.
Day to Day Responsibilities
  • Prospect and contact potential shipping customers to build client relationships
  • Quote, book, and manage shipments from pickup through delivery
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and customers
  • Track loads and communicate proactively with shippers and carriers
  • Complete shipment documentation and resolve transit issues as they arise

What Primary Freight Provides
  • Cargo and liability insurance coverage
  • DAT load posting access and Truckstop login
  • Carrier onboarding and tracking software with access to 40,000+ vetted carriers
  • Company email, TMS access, and LTL portal access
  • EDI and customer portal capability
  • Customer invoicing, collections, and back office support
  • Orientation, training, and support transitioning existing customers
  • Fast carrier setup for new contracts

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation (required)
  • An existing or transferable book of business, or demonstrated ability to build one
  • Working knowledge of freight brokerage operations and carrier negotiation
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem solving skills
  • Background in customer service and account management

How Pay Works
This role operates on a revenue share model. You keep a percentage of the gross margin on every delivered load. Primary Freight's share covers the services we provide on your behalf, including insurance, TMS and load board software, carrier vetting and onboarding, customer invoicing, collections, and back office support. There are no fees, no startup costs, and nothing to purchase. You are never charged for the tools or support.
