The Role: Mission Control Technician

This role supports the real-time monitoring and coordination of Switch’s mission-critical infrastructure. You monitor systems, respond to alerts, coordinate investigations, and ensure issues are documented, escalated, and resolved according to established procedures. Your work helps protect uptime, safety, and customer trust in a 24/7 operating environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Monitor critical infrastructure systems including power, cooling, security, safety, and network connectivity.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for alerts, events, and incident investigations during assigned shifts.

  • Interpret alarms, diagnose issues, initiate remediation, and escalate when needed.

  • Create, update, and close incident tickets with accurate timelines and documentation.

  • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and network carriers to resolve incidents.

  • Perform approved configuration tasks following documented instructions and security policies.

  • Produce clear incident summaries and post-event reports.

  • Provide timely, professional support to customers during incidents.

  • Follow defined escalation, notification, and communication procedures.

  • Work scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and rotations as required.

What We’re Looking For
  • You stay calm and methodical during incidents and system alerts.

  • You follow procedures closely and understand the risk of deviation in mission-critical environments.

  • You communicate clearly, especially when sharing status or technical details.

  • You document your work thoroughly and in real time.

  • You know when to troubleshoot independently and when to escalate.

  • You take ownership of issues until resolution or handoff is complete.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in IT operations, network operations, or a similar technical support role.

  • Experience monitoring systems, investigating alerts, and managing incidents through resolution.

  • Foundational understanding of network topologies and the OSI model.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues across multiple infrastructure domains.

  • Experience using ticketing and monitoring tools.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 operations environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in data center, NOC, SOC, or other mission-critical environments.

  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems such as UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, and cooling systems.

  • Experience with terminal access and monitoring tools such as SSH, PuTTY, Syslog, or Nagios.

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or comparable certifications.

  • Willingness to obtain OSHA 10 certification within six months.

Working Conditions and Requirements
  • On-site work in secure, monitored operations centers.

  • Extended periods of monitoring screens and responding to alerts.

  • High attention to detail in time-sensitive situations.

  • Willingness to follow strict security, safety, and documentation requirements.
