What is an independent contractor merchandising?

Independent Contractor Merchandisers are self-employed professionals who are hired by companies or agencies to set up, organize, and maintain product displays in retail stores. Unlike regular employees, they work on a contract basis, often handling multiple clients simultaneously. Their tasks can include stocking shelves, setting up promotional displays, ensuring planogram compliance, and reporting store conditions. Because they are independent contractors, they manage their own schedules and are responsible for their own taxes and business expenses.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an independent contractor merchandiser?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Merchandising Specialist, you generally need experience in retail merchandising, product display, inventory management, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with planogram software, mobile reporting tools, and company-specific merchandising systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure accurate execution of merchandising plans, efficient workflow, and positive relationships with clients and retailers.

What are common challenges faced by independent contractor merchandisers, and how can they be managed?

Independent contractor merchandisers often face challenges such as managing a variable workload, coordinating schedules across multiple retail locations, and maintaining clear communication with both clients and store staff. Time management and organizational skills are crucial, as you may be responsible for planning efficient routes and ensuring all merchandising tasks are completed within tight deadlines. Building strong relationships with store personnel and staying adaptable can help address unexpected changes, such as product shortages or last-minute assignment updates.

Job description

Build a Book of Business That Can Pay You Month After Month

SIXPAC is looking for motivated, entrepreneurial people to join our growing PAC Team as independent sales partners.

As a PAC Partner, you can prospect for businesses, demonstrate the SIXPAC platform, close your own sales, and build a portfolio of customers capable of generating significant recurring income.

You control your schedule. You control your activity. And your results determine your earning potential.

What You'll Do

PAC Partners have the opportunity to handle the entire sales process:

  • Find and prospect potential business customers
  • Speak directly with owners and decision-makers
  • Identify opportunities where SIXPAC can save businesses money
  • Schedule and conduct your own SIXPAC demonstrations
  • Present SIXPAC's software and payment-processing solutions
  • Close and enroll new customers
  • Track your prospects and sales through our CRM
  • Build relationships that can generate ongoing recurring income
  • Participate in company campaigns and work company-provided opportunities when available

We Get You Selling FAST

We don't believe you need weeks of classroom training before talking to a customer.

Our PAC 90 program is designed to get you into action immediately.

Your initial training can be completed in approximately two days, covering the SIXPAC platoform, payment processing, prospecting, demonstrations, the PAC program, and our CRM.

Then you get to work.  PAC Team members earn both upfront commissions as well as ongoing residuals – in addition to performance bonuses.

Our recommended goal:

Make your first prospect contact within 48 hours and work toward closing your first sale within your first two weeks.

You're Independent — But You're Not On Your Own

SIXPAC provides an ongoing support system designed to help motivated PAC Partners succeed.

Resources may include:

  • Morning and afternoon PAC Team meetings
  • Weekly Deep Dive and Q&A sessions
  • Sales scripts and email templates
  • Prospecting and demo training
  • Your own SIXPAC demo environment
  • CRM and lead-management tools
  • Sales and marketing materials
  • Suggested verticals and campaigns
  • Company-provided leads and opportunities when available
  • Ongoing communication and support from PAC leadership

Use as much or as little of the support as you need.

Multiple Ways to Earn!

The PAC program is performance-based.

Successful PAC Partners can earn significant income through commissions, incentives and bonuses, and ongoing residual income from their accounts.

That recurring component is important.

Instead of starting at zero every month, successful PAC Partners build a growing book of business that can continue producing ongoing monthly income from customers they've already sold.

There is no guaranteed income. Your earnings depend upon your activity, sales and the performance of the accounts you acquire.

Who Are We Looking For?

We're looking for people who take action.

You might have years of sales experience — or you might simply be someone who is outgoing, entrepreneurial and comfortable talking to business owners.

You'll likely do well if you:

  • Enjoy meeting and talking with people
  • Are comfortable approaching business owners
  • Can work independently without someone managing your day
  • Are willing to prospect consistently
  • Want to learn how to demonstrate and sell a business solution
  • Are coachable and willing to use the training and resources available
  • Like the idea of building recurring rather than purely one-time income
  • Want control over when and how much you work

Previous B2B, merchant services, software, outside sales or business-development experience is helpful, but not required.

Your First Mission: Get ONE

We don't want new PAC Partners spending their first month endlessly studying the product.

Learn the basics. Build your First 10 prospect list. Start conversations. Get SIXPAC in front of business owners.

Your first goal is simple: close your first customer within the first week.

Then do it again.

Successful PAC Partners can progress from learning and observing demos to conducting their own demonstrations, closing their own business and ultimately developing a repeatable sales process.

If you're looking for an independent opportunity where you can prospect, present, close and build recurring income, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply today to learn more about joining the SIXPAC PAC Team.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. Compensation is performance-based. Earnings are not guaranteed and depend on individual activity, sales and account performance.
