Job description

Senior Mechanical EngineerLocation: Waynesboro, GAContract- 3 YearsClient- Southern NuclearPosition OverviewThe Senior Mechanical Engineer will serve as the technical lead for mechanical system design in support of new generation, environmental, and retrofit projects across power generation and heavy industrial facilities. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to independently make sound engineering decisions while directing design efforts and supporting field teams as needed.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical engineering design for small and medium retrofit, environmental, and new generation projectsPerform mechanical design activities including: Pipe sizing & routingMaterial selectionValve selection & specificationPipe support designEquipment layout & equipment specificationsDevelop and review P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and mechanical deliverablesConduct hydraulic calculations; Pipe-Flo or equivalent software preferredDevelop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and engineering estimatesProvide technical direction to designers and review design outputSupport system checkouts, commissioning, and startup as neededEnsure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirementsCollaborate closely with plant staff, engineering teams, contractors, and vendorsMake independent engineering decisions with limited information and guidanceRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited program)20+ years of mechanical engineering experience in power generation or heavy industrial settingsExtensive hands-on experience in: Piping system designHydraulic/pump system calculationsEquipment selection (tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, BOP equipment)P&ID development & checkingStrong knowledge of: Engineering design principlesASME, API, and other relevant codes & standardsDemonstrated ability to lead design work and mentor designersPreferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) LicensePipe-Flo or similar hydraulic modeling software experienceExperience supporting commissioning and plant startup
