Company Overview

Broughton Construction LLC, founded in 1999, is a commercial concrete contractor focused on delivering high-quality work through disciplined execution, strong leadership, and accurate project controls. We utilize state-of-the-art equipment and employ a professional team whose commitment to safety, quality and speed of service is second to none. With integrity and a commitment to unsurpassed quality at the core of our work ethic, Broughton is poised for significant growth and is seeking people with a real passion for excellence, hard work, and superior attention to detail to join our team.

Position Summary

The Lead Concrete Construction Layout Technician supports and leads layout operations on complex commercial, industrial, and infrastructure concrete projects. This is a hands-on, field-driven role responsible for controlling accuracy, layout execution, and coordination between drawings and field production. This position works directly with superintendents, foremen, and crews to ensure layout is accurate, efficient, and production ready. The ideal candidate understands concrete means and methods, sequencing, and tolerances and can identify and resolve layout conflicts before they impact schedule or quality. This is not an entry-level role, not survey-only, and not office-based. This role is suited for a field professional who takes ownership of layout and leads by example on active jobsites.

Key Responsibilities

Layout Leadership & Execution

  • Perform and lead concrete layout for footings, foundations, walls, columns, slabs, and elevated work
  • Establish and verify control lines, benchmarks, and elevations
  • Layout and verify anchor bolts, embeds, sleeves, block-outs, and edge conditions
  • Maintain layout accuracy during fast-paced, high production operations
  • Support layout needs for large pours, elevated placements, and tight tolerance work

Coordination & Field Integration

  • Coordinate daily layout activities with superintendents, foremen, and field crews
  • Communicate layout intent clearly to crews and verify understanding before execution
  • Identify drawing conflicts, field discrepancies, or constructability issues early
  • Proactively communicate solutions to field leadership to avoid rework or delays
  • Serve as a technical layout resource to field personnel

Drawings & Technical Interpretation

  • Read, interpret, and build from structural, civil, and architectural drawings
  • Understand concrete tolerances, forming systems, and sequencing requirements
  • Verify layout against plans, specs, and approved details before placement

Tools & Technology

  • Operate and maintain total stations, lasers, levels, and related layout equipment
  • Ensure layout tools are used correctly and efficiently in the field

Travel & Flexibility

  • Travel to regional and multi-state projects sites as required
  • Provide layout support during start-up, peak production, and critical milestones

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of concrete construction layout experience
  • Strong understanding of concrete forming systems, sequencing, and tolerances
  • Proven ability to independently lead layout operations in the filed
  • Proficiency with total stations, lasers, levels and layout tools
  • Ability to work directly with filed crews in active construction environments
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work extended schedules as needed

Preferred

  • Experience on large commercial, industrial, or infrastructure concrete projects
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish)
  • Strong communication skills with diverse field crews
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior field personnel
  • Prior experience supporting high-production or schedule-driven concrete operations

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays
  • Travel per diem
