Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for engineering and built environment professionals experienced in technical drawings, project specifications, engineering reports, multi-step documentation review, task design, and objective rubric development.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on engineering document understanding, instruction-following evaluation, technical task authoring, ground truth output creation, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply hands-on engineering or built environment expertise to design complex tasks grounded in real-world workspace files, define precise expected outputs, and create clear evaluation rubrics for structured review workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Professionals in this role may contribute to:

Engineering Documentation Task Design

  • Author complex, multi-step tasks grounded in real-world engineering and built environment materials
  • Work with technical drawings, project specifications, engineering reports, and related workspace files
  • Design tasks that evaluate document interpretation, instruction following, technical reasoning, and output structure
  • Ensure task prompts are realistic, professionally relevant, and aligned with engineering documentation workflows

Ground Truth Output & Rubric Development

  • Define precise ground truth outputs for engineering and built environment tasks
  • Create objective evaluation rubrics that clearly distinguish correct, incomplete, or incorrect outputs
  • Apply structured judgment to ensure tasks are testable, measurable, and technically sound
  • Review task materials for clarity, completeness, and alignment with professional documentation standards

Technical Review & Multi-Step Workflow Evaluation

  • Evaluate whether complex requests require appropriate use of workspace files, web research, code execution, or structured analysis
  • Identify ambiguities, missing details, unclear task logic, or weak evaluation criteria
  • Support review of engineering workflows involving calculations, documentation interpretation, report analysis, and structured deliverables
  • Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted task materials

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in engineering, architecture, construction, design, project documentation, or built environment workflows
  • Experience in one or more areas such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, industrial engineering, or architecture
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, reports, project files, and structured engineering documentation
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or validating technical tasks, reports, instructions, or project deliverables
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to define clear evaluation criteria
  • Comfort working independently with complex, multi-step technical materials
  • Ability to work in a remote, project-based environment

Educational Background

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, industrial engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related technical field is helpful
  • Professional experience with engineering documentation, technical design review, project specifications, drawings, reports, or built environment deliverables is highly relevant
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in engineering, architecture, technical project review, or documentation-heavy workflows may also be valuable

Nice to Have

  • Experience creating technical assessments, rubrics, benchmark tasks, QA checklists, training materials, or evaluation criteria
  • Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, construction documents, specifications, engineering reports, calculations, or design documentation
  • Experience with workspace-file review, technical writing, engineering QA, design coordination, or project documentation workflows
  • Comfort working with multi-step tasks involving files, research, structured outputs, or code-assisted analysis
  • Ability to commit approximately 15–20 hours per week depending on project availability and scope

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply engineering and built environment expertise to structured remote project work
  • Contribute to high-quality technical task design, document understanding review, and rubric development
  • Work on flexible assignments aligned with your professional documentation and engineering judgment
  • Use your ability to interpret complex technical materials and define precise evaluation standards
  • Remote structure with competitive hourly compensation

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor role
  • Fully remote with flexible scheduling
  • Eligible professionals may be based in approved project locations depending on project needs
  • Expected commitment of approximately 15–20 hours per week depending on project availability
  • Competitive rates between $70–$100 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
  • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
