Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of electrical engineering solutions throughout all phases of project execution. This role leads the preparation of electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and analytical models while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and project requirements.

Working with increasing independence, the Senior Electrical Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop coordinated, constructible electrical systems and supports successful project execution through technical leadership, construction administration, scope management, and risk evaluation.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a technical leader within the electrical engineering team.

  • Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers while supporting professional development and knowledge sharing.

  • May lead project-specific engineering teams and coordinate work assignments to support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and production of electrical engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and analytical models throughout all phases of project delivery.

  • Develop electrical system designs for power distribution, lighting, grounding, low-voltage, and other building electrical systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.

  • Prepare and review coordinated construction documents, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, power plans, lighting plans, and supporting design documentation.

  • Utilize CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to create and coordinate accurate 2D drawings and 3D electrical models.

  • Review electrical engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project scope, quality standards, coordination requirements, and technical expectations.

  • Lead construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), conducting site visits, and supporting field coordination efforts.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to develop coordinated and constructible electrical design solutions.

  • Assist project managers with scope management, cost tracking, scheduling, and technical risk evaluation related to electrical systems.

  • Apply sound engineering judgment to resolve complex technical challenges and support project decision-making.

  • Participate in professional development activities and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and technical practices.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) required.

  • 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering required.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

  • Active NCEES Record for licensure maintenance preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience designing commercial building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and low-voltage systems.

  • Proficiency with CAD and BIM software used for electrical engineering and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, engineering standards, and construction administration practices.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities while working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
