Job description

An employee in this position assists in program development, implementation, and supervision of programs and events for individuals with disabilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Specialist - Specialized Recreation and Inclusion programs. Essential Functions Essential Duties and Tasks Develops, plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates a variety of community services and recreation programs for individuals with disabilities Identify community needs and recommend appropriate programs Responsible for marketing/ promoting specialized recreation programs and events through flyers, newsletters, and social media Communicate with various community partners, parents/guardians, caregivers, instructors, etc.

Coordinates, recruits, and trains volunteers for programs and events Works nights and weekends as necessary to provide coverage and supervision for programs. Determines equipment and supply needs for programs and coordinates inventory. Makes purchasing recommendations and submits requests for supplies Oversees registration, refunds, invoices, etc.

along with maintaining participant and volunteer data and other administrative duties as needed Assists in policy and training development and ensures that policy is followed to provide safe and appropriate experiences. Assists with budget development and management as it relates to planning programs and services. Assists with special events.

Recruitment and Selection Guidelines Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of programming for youth and adults with disabilities Ability to effectively plan, schedule, execute and evaluate year-round programs for youth and adults with disabilities Ability to plan and coordinate the work of volunteers Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in written and oral presentations.

Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, program instructors and volunteers, employees, school personnel, citizens, and Town departments/staff. Ability to interpret and explain polices rules, and procedures to participants, parents, and officials.

Possess proficiency in basic office software packages (MS Office). Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to at least 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull, or otherwise move objects at least 50 pounds.

Most work requiring lifting is related to work at the pool. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, operate a computer terminal, do extensive reading of written material and a computer terminal. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in therapeutic recreation, physical education or related field and experience in working with special populations and/or therapeutic programming.

Special Requirements Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license CPR/First Aid/AED Certification Once an offer of employment has been extended, candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation, including NC State Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting.
