Job description

The Assistant Industrial Supply Manager aids the Industrial Supply Manager in the daily operations in Juneau, Alaska, and takes charge of the store during the Manager's absence. This role is hands-on, encompassing counter sales, inventory and freight operations, technical product fabrication, and direct customer service for all product lines offered by the branch. The Assistant Manager is expected to achieve full cross-training in gases, metals, hydraulic hoses, and snowplows, ensuring that customers receive consistent expertise regardless of who is serving them. Success in this position necessitates an individual who takes initiative without needing to be prompted, collaborates effectively with the team rather than operating from a superior position, and is prepared to advance into branch leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Support, Supervision, and Coverage

• Act as the Manager in the Manager's absence, overseeing store operations, staffing coverage, customer escalations, and daily decision-making.

• Provide direction, training, and support to Counter / Customer Service staff at the shift level.

• Assist the Manager with scheduling, onboarding, and coaching of branch personnel.

• Uphold the standards for customer service, product knowledge, safety, and store presentation.

• Foster a culture aligned with mployee-owned (ESOP) values of accountability and ownership.

Inventory, Purchasing, and ERP

• Input and manage stock orders in the company ERP system (Point of Rental), aiding the Manager in sustaining appropriate inventory levels and reducing stock-outs and overstock situations.

• Ensure accurate part numbers, pricing, and vendor records are maintained.

• Order and receive freight; verify counts, reconcile receipts, and address discrepancies with vendors and carriers.

• Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory tasks.

Freight and Logistics

• Load and unload freight, including container and barge shipments typical in Southeast Alaska.

• Support inbound and outbound logistics, delivery scheduling, and freight management.

Requirements
Experience in industrial supply, distribution, equipment, warehouse, or a related trade / operations environment.

• Comfort with ERP or inventory management systems and standard business software.

• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on work, including hydraulic hose fabrication and freight handling.

• Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a forklift and delivery vehicles (certification provided or supported).

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and work in a physically active warehouse and counter environment.

• Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Reliability and initiative, with the judgment to run the store independently when the Manager is unavailable.
Prior lead, keyholder, or supervisory experience in a counter, warehouse, or branch setting.

• Experience with compressed / industrial gas handling and DOT hazardous materials requirements.

• Familiarity with hydraulic hose assembly (Parker or equivalent), metals, or fabrication supply.

• Knowledge of Southeast Alaska freight, barge logistics, and the local trades / marine / mining customer base.

• Interest in advancing into a branch management role.

Benefits
a competitive hourly wage $26-33/hr, depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package. As an employee-owned (ESOP) company, we provide eligible employees with stock shares in the business, in addition to medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, and retirement benefits.

This position is a direct development path into the Industrial Supply Manager role.
