Overview

The Transportation Freight Representative plays a vital role within our logistics team by coordinating freight activities, maintaining strong carrier relationships, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods across multiple transportation modes. This position serves as a key point of contact between East Penn and its carriers, supporting both domestic and international freight operations. The ideal candidate is detailoriented, proactive, and highly organized, with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of the freight and transportation industry.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with internal departments-including sales, warehousing, customer service, and finance-to ensure shipments are executed accurately and on time. You will help resolve issues, optimize freight processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance our global distribution network. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of our supply chain by improving operational efficiency, ensuring compliance, and delivering exceptional service to internal and external partners.

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain financial, statistical, international and other reports as requested.
  • Arrange and participate in, as directed, meetings with outside transportation vendors and East Penn departments and employees
  • Maintain records, reports and files for the Transportation Department
  • Recommend strategic solutions for the improvement of East Penn's global distribution process
  • Answers basic questions regarding East Penn's freight program from various company departments
  • May also cross-train in various departments within the distribution center.
  • Manage weekely freight payment GL coding; Commiunicate weekly report to Finanace Department
  • Create and maintain carrier contacts (all-modes)
  • Provide LTL/Truckload pricing information to EPM & Subsidiary locations.
  • Coordinate the inbound/outbound movement of materials for various EPM departments.
  • Process all freight related claims; create and maintain a monthly claim report
  • Prepare monthly UAP report, intermodal tracings for Carrier Performance and inbound Logistics Manager and Sales review. 
  • Review and investigate all detention invoices for accuracy
  • Complete International documentation pertaining to the movement of import/export product and materials
  • Coordinate and gather rate information for East Penn international shipping
  • Participate in continuous improvement process
  • Other job related duties as requested by the Carrier Performance and inbound Logistics Manager 
Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other frequently used computer programs
  • Transportation/logistics experience preferred
  • International shipping document preparation experience
  • Familiar with standard international/domestic shipping concepts, practices and procedures
  • Good communication skills
  • Organizational skills
