What can I do with a robotics and automation degree?

A robotics and automation degree prepares individuals for roles such as robotics engineer, automation technician, or control systems engineer. Graduates can work in manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare, or research environments, designing, programming, and maintaining automated systems using tools like PLCs, CAD software, and robotics programming languages. Certifications in specific systems or programming can enhance job prospects and career advancement.

Which 5 jobs will survive AI?

In robotics automation, jobs such as robotics engineers, automation technicians, systems integrators, AI specialists, and maintenance managers are likely to persist as they require complex problem-solving, hands-on skills, and ongoing system oversight that are difficult for AI to fully replace. These roles often involve designing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining robotic systems, emphasizing technical expertise and adaptability. Continuous learning and certification in robotics tools and programming languages enhance job security in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Robotics Automation, and why are they important?

To excel in Robotics Automation, you need a solid background in engineering or computer science, with expertise in robotics, automation systems, and programming languages such as Python or C++. Familiarity with PLC programming, CAD software, and industry certifications like Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or Siemens/ABB robotics credentials is highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork help professionals adapt to complex challenges and drive innovation. These competencies are crucial for designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient automated systems that enhance productivity and safety.

What are robotics automation engineers?

Robotics automation engineers are professionals who design, build, and maintain automated robotic systems used in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics. They work on integrating robots with existing processes to improve efficiency, productivity, and safety. Their responsibilities often include programming robots, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with other engineers to optimize automation solutions. A strong background in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering is essential for this role.

Is automation and robotics a good career?

A career in robotics automation involves designing, programming, and maintaining robotic systems used in manufacturing, logistics, and other industries. It offers strong job growth, competitive salaries, and opportunities to work with advanced technologies like sensors, AI, and machine learning. Relevant skills include programming, engineering, and problem-solving, often supported by specialized certifications or degrees.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in robotics automation, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in robotics automation often encounter challenges such as integrating new robotic systems with existing processes, troubleshooting hardware or software malfunctions, and keeping up with rapid technological advancements. Addressing these challenges typically involves continuous learning, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams (like IT, engineering, and operations), and actively participating in training or certification programs. Open communication and a problem-solving mindset are essential for adapting to evolving technologies and ensuring smooth implementation of automation solutions.

What is the difference between In Robotics Automation vs Robotics Engineer?

AspectIn Robotics AutomationRobotics Engineer

Job description

Position Description: CGI Federal is seeking a motivated Intelligent Automation Engineer with experience in Robotic Automation (RPA) and foundational skills in AI/ML to support digital transformation initiatives across Department of War (DoW) programs, including work with the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). The ideal candidate is technically grounded in RPA, curious and comfortable exploring diverse approaches, evaluating emerging technologies, and delivering scalable maintenance solutions. Your future duties and responsibilities: . Build, test, deploy, and support UiPath automations in production, including queues, retries, logging, and alerting. . Configure and manage bots via UiPath Orchestrator, including scheduling, monitoring, and exception handling. . Integrate ML inference into workflows using APIs or event-driven patterns. . Monitor run performance of automations and troubleshoot incidents. . Maintain and enhance RPA and AI-enabled solutions in secure federal environments. . Implement data validation and perform integrations with APIs, databases, and file systems. . Collaborate with analysts, Marines/SMEs, and technical teams to refine requirements and validate outcomes. . Prepare documentation describing design, configuration, AI model utilization, and compliance considerations. Required qualifications to be successful in this role: . 3+ years delivering production automation solutions that include RPA and AI/ML-enabled automation. . 2+ years hands-on UiPath development (Studio/Orchestrator) including REFramework, attended/unattended bots, and UiPath AI Center (academic or internship experience accepted). . Experience developing, testing, and deploying UiPath automations supporting DoD/USMC processes. . Configure and manage bots in UiPath Orchestrator. . Foundational understanding of AI/ML concepts such as classification, NLP, OCR, or model integration. . Experience with Python, C#, .NET, SQL, PowerShell (basic), Git, and Agile/Scrum. . Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance RPA and AI-enabled solutions in secure federal environments. . Partner effectively with business analysts and SMEs. . Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience developing and supporting automation solutions. . Ability to obtain a DoW security clearance; U.S. citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications . Experience with UiPath AI Center and/or Document Understanding. . Exposure to Python ML libraries (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow) or managed ML services. . UiPath certification(s) or equivalent proficiency. . Experience with other RPA platforms (Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, Power Automate). Performance Evidence Requirement . Candidate should be able to provide examples of their contributions to prior RPA and/or AI/ML-enabled automations, including any measurable improvements they supported (sanitized metrics acceptable). Examples include hours saved, reduction in manual steps, improved bot reliability, or accuracy improvements from integrating ML features. . Candidate should be able to describe their role in achieving these results-such as building automations, integrating ML components, resolving exceptions, or improving stability. . Candidate should be able to explain how the team measured outcomes (e.g., monitoring dashboards, Orchestrator logs, error rates), without needing to independently design or own the measurement framework.
