Director Robotics & Automation – Tata Consultancy Services

Job Description: This position is part of TCS IoT and Digital Engineering horizontal business unit to drive the growth of Robotics and Industrial Automation solutions across several vertical segments in North America. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of industry experience shaping proposals, building strong client relationships, and driving solution-based sales while collaborating with cross-functional teams to create business opportunities and enhance value for customers.

Robotics and Automation is a strategic futuristic service as part of the Connected Plants unit of the larger IOT and Digital Engineering horizontal business unit. It provides a wide-ranging robotic automation solutions such as:

  • Manufacturing and Assembly – High-precision robotic arms, CNC machines, and automated assembly lines used in automotive, electronics, and consumer goods production.
  • Logistics and Warehousing – Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and robotic picking systems for inventory movement, sorting, and packaging.
  • Healthcare and Medical Devices – Surgical robots, pharmacy automation, lab sample handling, and assistive robotic systems for patient care and rehabilitation.
  • CPG and Agriculture – Robotics for crop monitoring, harvesting, sorting, and packaging; automation of repetitive and labor-intensive processes in food manufacturing.
  • Energy and Utilities – Robots for inspection and maintenance in hazardous environments (e.g., oil rigs, nuclear plants); drones for grid inspection and pipeline monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support business development for robotic automation solutions across industries.
  • Engage with sales and pre‑sales teams to architect and articulate integrated systems combining robotics, mechatronics, control systems, and software architecture addressing client needs.
  • Analyze customer requirements (RFIs, RFPs) to arrive at the best fit/innovative solution to meet customer needs.
  • Co‑ordinate with external partners to define product leverage for client needs/fit.
  • Provide oversight to large/strategic engagements with clients, participate in steering committees, address issues and challenges in delivery, execution, support.
  • Support development of sales & pre‑sales pitch & value proposition and win high quality proposals with top notch brand messaging in Robotic Automation.
  • Position the unit and its services in the market in engagements with analysts, business partners, product vendors, events, seminars, etc.
  • Actively drive awareness of robotic automation solutions with targeted clients – tradeshows, research‑led thought leadership, client roadshows and workshops.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in industrial automation, robotics engineering, or related fields.
  • Deep expertise in mechatronics, control systems, and robotics integration.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC UA), and HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Proficiency in simulation and programming tools (ROS, Python/C++, MATLAB).
  • Experience leading cross‑disciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
  • Proven success in designing automation systems in manufacturing, logistics, and other sectors.
  • Exposure to AI/ML applications in robotics or computer vision systems.
  • A good understanding of technology trends, market forces and industry imperatives.
  • Consultative sales experience with advisory services and skills for point of view articulation at CX level. Consulting engagements experience including blueprinting.
  • Understanding of key digital technologies, like IoT, AI/ML, AR‑VR and the products that leverage these technologies.
Salary Range

$158,000–$206,000 a year
