Job description

SUMMARY
This position works collaboratively with the Clinic Physician and nursing staff to provide the highest quality patient care and treatment of GTB tribal members, other federally recognized tribal members, and GTB employees. Maintains standard of care within scope of RN Licensure
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in the Registered Nurse Program, with a current State of Michigan RN License.
  • Three to five years of nursing experience in a family clinic setting.
  • Must have current BLS Certification.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted driver license and be insurable by the GTB insurance carrier.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain patient confidentiality as per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and complete HIPAA compliance training.
  • Provide the highest skilled quality patient care and treatment to individuals and families, both physician and self-referred.
  • Consult with GTB Clinic Medical providers in delivering medical treatment.
  • Assure smooth flow of patients throughout the clinic visits.
  • Admits patients to exam rooms, schedules and/or performs appropriate diagnostic procedures as ordered by physician.
  • Provides patient education specific to ordered diagnostics or procedures.
  • Performs ordered procedures according to written policy/procedure manual specifications following Universal Precautions and OSHA guidelines when appropriate.
  • Must know that nurses are required on a regular basis to make decisions and determine needs of patients and their care as part of assessment and triage with physicians.
  • Oversee and supervise staff nurses in a team approach to assure optimum patient care and flow of schedule.
  • Assure adequate staffing. Assures adequate medical supplies in clinic and in patient rooms.
  • Assures drug closet is updated on a regular basis and expired drugs are disposed of properly.
  • Provides quarterly in-services for community in regard to education and prevention.
  • Attends training, workshops, in-services required to meet CEU for nursing licensure.
  • Oversee reference laboratory.
  • Maintain policies and procedures for Nursing.
  • Supervise scheduling of nursing staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to give quick accurate nursing assessment skills regarding the severity and urgency of callers' concerns.
  • Must be able to provide identification and assurances of appropriate follow-up nursing activities.
  • Must be able to provide evaluation of care given to a patient via telephone,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other areas and personnel within the Clinic.
  • Must have excellent health education and presentation skills. Experience and skill in designing and conducting training and in-service. Provide competencies to other nurses, documented and updated annually and PRN.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Must possess the ability to listen and communicate effectively to patient needs and use good judgement in directions given to patients.
  • Uses good judgement in interpreting guidelines, in adapting department procedures, or in recommending approaches or solutions for specific problems.
  • Must be proficient in the use of the electronic health record.
  • Working knowledge of computers, preferably in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft office products and database applications.
  • Responsible for developing credentialing and privileges for the Registered Nurse and LPN.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Successful completion of the Registered Nurse Program, with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred, with a current State of Michigan RN License.
  • Three to five years of nursing experience in a family clinic setting, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have current BLS Certification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED
General office equipment such as, calculators, computers, modem, copiers, fax, phone systems, etc. Responsible for being proficient in the use of equipment used for diagnostic procedures such as EKG, vital signs, nebulizer treatment, clia waived bench labs phlebotomy and assist with colposcopy.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires sitting, lifting, reaching, walking, and lifting heavy objects. Must be in good physical and mental health. Lifting of patients may be required in assisting them through an examination. This position may at times have to assist patients in dressing/undressing.
TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS
The employee uses judgement in identifying and selecting the most appropriate procedures to use, or in determining which of several established alternatives to use. Some deadlines are involved, so there is time pressure on occasion.
WORKING CONDITIONS
A good deal of work is performed in an office environment, but it is important to realize that some of the work is on the floor of the various other clinic offices and examination rooms.
COMMENTS
Native American preference will apply. Must be willing and able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Adherence to strict company policy in regard to confidentiality is a must.
